SPOILERS Disturbing Trend in UA and Snuff: **Major Spoilers**

...say he was 21 when he passed his exam, that would be fanon, as canonically we can't say for certain how much time has passed between Moving Pictures and TLC. We can make a guess based on the seasons mentioned in the books and those between, but it is all speculation. In short, canon is...

    Least favourite Discworld book

I think it would have to be Moving Pictures. I mean I like its construction, re-envisioning of early Hollywood and integration of Plato's Cave theory, but non of the characters ever seemed to click for me - asides from CMOT; where's my 1000 elephants :D - and the reality collapse at the end just...

    SPOILERS Snuff *Warning Spoilers*

Problem with that is they don't track chronologically. Moving Pictures, Witches abroad, and the last hero could fit stone, while being in wildly varying points in his career. not to mention its highly subjective.

    Status Update.

As some people may know I'm re-reading every single Discworld book in a random order I'm reading Equal Rites at the moment and I should have it finished by Thursday and then I plan on reading Moving Pictures :D

The difference with Ridcully is that his backstory was 'semi-plotrelevant': in Moving Pictures because it is the reason why they picked him as Archchancellor, in UA to cue that huge-hands-gag (what was that about anyway) Together with the information about his grandfather in UA the impression...

    After Snuff.....

Well, The Fifth Elephant did have vampires, werewolves and (shudder!) dwarfs and Igors. And Cheery in a red dress.

I heard of the theory that the estate he spent 40 years on before he was made Archchancellor because the folks at the UU thought he's an easily-to-get-rid-of-dunce as well, and while it does work, why not spent a single sentence on claryfying things. one sentence along the lines of -and then he...

...with an estate in the mountains. Just like Ponder was a city boy with an uncle who was a farmer. I initially thought UA contradicts Moving Pictures wrt Ridcully's background, but from Lords and Ladies it seems that when he visited Lancre as a young wizard-in-training he had not been in the...

    After Snuff.....

I know quite a few on here aren't too keen on Sir Terry's 'parody' books (Souls Music, Moving Pictures, etc.) because they basically boil down to 'spot the reference' humour but I would love to see him give the horror genre the same kind of treatment. :D

A mentality that could have been applied to, as said, virtually everything. (BTW: Recently watched a documentary about the medieval football in florence. It was amazing) The whole 'tame it' bit brings up a new problem, though. Before UA football or whatever you wanted to call it was remotely...

SPOILERS Disturbing Trend in UA and Snuff: **Major Spoilers**

any game involving a ball and feet comes to be called football . The name and game forms long predate the FA and FIFA rules . The mob idea fits into the old town vs town old style of mass football. Using the name doesn't make it the game we all know now. More important than the game in the book...

SPOILERS Disturbing Trend in UA and Snuff: **Major Spoilers**

Point taken and I'm aware. H8 said, though, that the rules that are in the book are pretty much the fifa rules. Yet, none of those applies. Not even 'pretty much' So, isn't it basically this? As in,we have a game that isn't really football but we call it football for some reason? (ranging from...

... Maybe it's an increasing boredom with the state of football over here :?: Shall we list the ways that film-making in Moving Pictures is not like film-making in real life? :shifty: I don't blame you for not liking the book, it's my second least favourite after Making Money, but...

...getting far more sophisticated in character development (as the Death story demonstrates), but he was still in his Adams-esque "let's do broad sendups of Roundworld cultural totems" mode (after all, Reaper Man came right after Moving Pictures and Eric, two of his more blatant cultural parodies.
