I know these don't look too different to normal cards but if you look carefully at the Kings especially you'll see that there are clues to places on the Disc (or associated with places anyway). ;)
Wow! Subtle or what?
In fact so subtle it went completely over my head. o_O

Is the king of clubs meant to be Klatch, the King of spades AM, the king of hearts Howonderland and the king of diamonds somewhere where they hit each other with those horns that go "parp"? o_O

They do look good though. :p

Look at the orbs and the swords/weapons and what they might represent

Some clues

Spades are associated with power/nobility and life/death (think veggies)
Pirates are also associated with Louisiana (New Orleans) as well as the Caribbean (also veggie, but not as realistic apart from the colour)
Hearts - all you need? Or myths and ship launching perhaps? (more veggies, but seasonal)
Diamonds - niche market forces and supply and demand (no veg but a decidedly short shelf life)

Obviously Meerkat and I are on a different plane here

Spades - It's a cabbage (a round white one) - Sto Plains and well known associations... The sword is roughly a cavalry sabre for the Hublander conquerors of Sto Lat

Hearts - pomegranate/apple & love etc - that's more a 'spear' than sword :p

Clubs is supposed to be a small pumpkin (granted it's a very round stylised one) and the sword's a cutlass type for mulatto piratical types with voodoo/soul food and music leanings

Diamonds - yes moneybags and that might be a bottle of some kind of merchantable liquor to sweeten the deal or alternatively something to see off a business rival 8)

Excuse me for still being particularly dense today, but are those the answers, or more clues? o_O
In the spirit of being helpful, they were answers (unless I have picked up the wrong end of the conversation here, in which case, feel free to ignore me).

And in Jan's next post...

Does that help, Pooh? :) Or did I get, as always, the wrong end of the stick?

Oh yeah? Or could it be that JAn and I are a little superior?
Both complete stonebonkers more like.
Nah, the word we're looking for is hubris.
Not really. I know what I put there and meerkat's been talking to me about the Caroc side of it, so she knows the way I'm thinking and the significance of the suits that follows trad Roundworld symbology.

PS - am taking a sample deck with me to Rotterdam to show my Monk's of Cool event organiser contact who's also doing the Rotterdam registrations :p

And a little update for this after the weekend. I met Eelco, one of the Monks of Cool in Rotterdam and he's very upbeat about there being space for us to have use of one of the small function rooms for a 'gambling den' come Temple to the Lady at the convention, although I think it'll be on a share basis with other groups/activities. However, with Thud and the other board games mushrooming up now, I don't think that there's going to be a problem with staging it somehow throughout the convention.

What that will amount to is having people around to look after the table(s) where convenient and it'd be up to us to run things and how it's themed etc with the committee really there just to give us house space. So - we've got a Cripple Mr. Onion workshop/card school event to host at Birmingham and forum volunteers to help will be appreciated.

Meerkat's been working on the Caroc for me so that's the next batch of 'artwork' to delegate to our artists - how's all that going chaps?

Erk! How can I refuse? Although, if anyone asks me to clarify the rules, I'll just start making them up
