Aaronovitch, Ben: What Abigail Did That Summer (2021)
196 pages, labeled a novella.

This is a side adventure in the Rivers Of London series. Abby has worked a little with characters in the main series, but this is her book. There is magic and she has some talent - she wants to be trained but the stuff going on in the adult adventures is too dangerous for her to be closely involved. Some related weirdnesses impinge, and her ability to converse with foxes is vital, as are her other talents.

Fighting her way out of a severely haunted house, dealing with fae, and advising adults take some similar skills. Having connections to the Folly is also very useful - they make the best stink bombs.

The British teen slang is mostly understandable from context.
I am a little surprised that the term "Feds" seems to have been picked up in the UK, which as far as I know does not have a federal government.

Recommended.
