Also bear in mind (viz the price) that downloaded books like Amazon/Kindle are subject to VAT, whereas ordinary books are not.

I have several pTerry books on my Kindle, but only because I have no space to store physical books, and my friend, Mary, who I always loan books to (and vice versa) I don't think is too worried if she doesn't get to read them.

I'm getting a Kindle soon, mainly because of the physical space issue. I have a lot of books and it sounds wonderful to have a whole collection in your hand. Also I think with Amazon you get some good deals with it. Nothing beats a physical hardback though I must say, especially for gifts as its such a lovely object. I bought the Caitlin Moran book on my partner's ipad - How to be a Woman (hilarious), then had to get the physical book (mainly to lend out).

Harry's stuff takes a crazy amount of planning to sort. But I do the manly thing and struggle with way more than I should carry because that's what we do.

I suspect the scene in Carpe Jugulum where Magrat is packing the baby's things, makes a lot more sense to you now.

I was thinking today that it would be a great idea if Amazon offered Kindle owners a free download of the book when they bought the hardback. I'd be quite happy to buy a new Pratchett hardback from them if I could also load that book to a Kindle. :)

Something like they do for a lot of film releases these days were you get the dvd bluray and digital version in one. But never gonna happen with amazon.

That's a great idea. The reason why DVDs/Blue Rays sometimes come with digital downloads is because the studio allows this to happen--has nothing to do with the retailer. For this to happen with books, the publisher would have to agree to a combination hardcover/e-book deal, and somehow compensate distributors like Amazon. Since there are many more publishers than movie studios, the process would probably be ad hoc. I do see this happening. I would bet that Barnes and Noble starts doing this soon to boost sales of the Nook, which is fast becoming the betamax of the e-book world.
