Book Bargains.

I forget how much I got my copy for (it was in a bargain bookshop in Stratford-upon-Avon, where I nearly got lost, but that's another story), but it was very cheap.
Ah, I still have the sticker on the front. 3 pounds and 99 pence. Still a bargain, even with the Australian dollar at the time, which meant that at the time, it was about $10 Australian.

Got Pyramids from Randwick Hardcover $25 thats the best I've seen the old hardcover for, actually it was the first time I've come across one with money on me. I was in Byron Bay and I came across 5 hardcovers but someone must have been watching me by the time I'd been to the ATM and got my money, someone had bought them they were $15 each. I trawl all the book stores weekly looking for that one gem. One of the store owners mentioned to me that Pratchett Hardcovers were rare and didn't stay on the shelf long.
James.. you should have given the store owner $5 or even asked him to put them aside for an hour... most have put them aside for me for at least a day.
Heres a pic of the Lifeline Bookfest here in Brissy. Its in January and is the second largest bookfest in the world (is the largest in Sydney?) It is held every 6 months and has MILLIONS of books. My daughter goes but I have never been. Couldn't handle that. There is one in Sydney too. You might like to go along. They DO have the random groups but they also have specialised sections for collectors. As well as DVD's, audio... you name it.

We have them here in Syd as well. There held at the Sydney UNI or at the Randwick racecourse. Looking at your pic there is no way our one is that big I could be wrong, same layout with books on tables. I like to go the first day and check everything out, There never seems to be much TP or DW stuff, there is always plenty of people. I have got some sweet bargains over the years, I go for the horticultural book I've amassed a healthy library of Tree books, they have a bit of age to them and some of the names have changed, but they take pride of place on the shelves under my Pratchett collection. Just a hint if you go during the last hours of the sales last day all the books are half price.
There is this huge bookstore in Newtown (SYD), called 'Goulds' it has literally tons of bookshelves cluttered with books that are placed in their specific section, but in no particular order and boxes on the floor. I've spent hours there, and the place stays open till midnight. Their fantasy and sci-fi section is well ordered though.
As for bribing book shop staff I wouldn't want to deprive other Prattchett fans the thrill of coming across that perfect gem for their collection, All the fun is in the hunt and capture. Any way I'm sure most of the 2nd hand stores already have their customers wishlist put aside.

James.... you can "put things aside" in ANY store.... shoes, books, clothes, linen, ANYTHING. Most places to do it. Some will do it for an hour or a day or for several days sometimes.
And yeah.... I have a brother and sister who are horticulturists and they have books from WAY WAY back... they don't change much... they just put prettier pics in.

To be honest I'm not much of a shopper, and my small talk with staff is usually quite short. I'm not really good at making request, now my fiancée she can shop and doesn't mind a chat either. Fortunately she shops with her girl friends, I only have to go with her once a year for Xmas. I can't handle walking through stores that sell perfumes with staff asking to smell this and that. I can put up with it for her, man she gets excited buying presents. When I shop I know what I want and I go get it, I know my sizes can buy a new outfit in 10 min no worries (Takes me longer to pay for it).
One of our largest book retailers is closing down..... its the one that always has the Terry Pratchett ones
