Hi,
A question occurred to me today, when I was thinking in some depth about the discworld universe and it's possibilities for writing, and this popped out of the dark chasm that is my mind (though I'd like to make it clear that this is a purely theoretical question and I have no inention of doing this myself) - given that the discworld universe is described in quite some depth and not exclusively to the discworld & it's immediate vicinity itself - is it possible for either Sir Terry or others to write wholy sperate stories based on other worlds - for example, the world seen by the water troll where it is a dragon holding it's tail in it's mouth? And in the case of persons other than Sir Terry, can they even use his universe as a staging ground, furthermore would he even ever deign to give his permission?
just out of sheer curiosity,
cheers,
Hublander.

You have to remember that when Terry wrote Colour of Magic, he had no idea what a success it would be. Had it been less successful, he might have explored other worlds.

The Discworld serves as a sort of mirror of our own world - albeit a somewhat distorted 'fairground' one. Terry really doesn't need to create other worlds now as he still has so much to explore on the Disc. ;)

We've got a brand-new series co-written by Terry and Stephen Baxter starting this year and set on another world. At the moment we know very little about it.

Then we also have another book set in the same parallel Earth as 'Nation', called 'Dodger'.

The 'Nomes' books (Truckers, Diggers and Wings) are set on Earth as are the Johnny Maxwell books and 'Dark Side of the Sun' and 'Strata' are pure Sci-Fi books. ;)

I like the sound of the brand-new series, and also the nomes ones, I'm not too sure about the others, although I'd probably leave delving into those partivular areas once I've read the discworld series. thanks for the info there :)
cheers,
Hublander.
