I liked the pilot from a few years ago - it definitely had the right spirit, even if the details of the plot & characters were significantly different to Douglas Adams's books. I think it's great that they've managed to find the time/money to make a few more.

I have to say that I didn't much care for the books and thought the pilot episode was actually better than the book. I thought Addams writing was going downhill during the later HHGTTG books and, although there were some inspired moments in the two Dirk Gently books, they were a shadow of his best stuff.

But the pilot episode was clever, funny and very well cast. It's a great basis for more of the same and new adventures by different writers. I hope the series (or whatever it turns out to be) will be as good or better than the pilot. :)

I decided to completely forego the comparisons and surprisingly i also rather enjoyed it right from the start. :)
Although indeed missing some girth(apart from not smoking a single cigarette so far   ) Stephen Mangan is well cast.
I hope this isn't considered 'spoilery',but the line was too good to pass up for this topic :http://www.terrypratchett.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4480&p=207323#p207323.
Looking forward to another new episode on monday the 12th,before that the first one is repeated twice on BBC4: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01d8jmz/broadcasts/upcoming
