No to the second and no to the last. The first is a phrase I'm not familiar with.(
Ah, then that could be a problem

Standing your round means, when it's your turn to buy drinks, you don't suddenly run away :p
Also, you would get to experience Dotsie speaking German - I only know about 20 words (not useful ones), but when I've had a drink I become fluent!

Well, I can try saving up and see what I can do.... It would be a chance to wear the Hex-Costume in a more fitting surrounding

See, it's all settled, you just have to save up the money and you'll be welcome at the con :)

I love it when a plan comes together ;)

Are there still a few tickets left? I might not be able to get mine til the end of the month :(
Yep, don't worry, there are still plenty left - the membership cap is over 800 and we haven't reached 600 yet!

karen'll be able to confirm for definite but I think it'll be the same as last year and some people will be there the day before to get ready to set up - didn't they have a quiz and fish and chip supper on the Thursday last year?

I'm wondering whether I ought to get there a day earlier now as well but the piggy bank prolly won't run to another night  I'll just get there a.s.a.p on the Friday I think and I'm getting a lift there next year so I can organise my own schedule instead of having to trust to the tender mercies of South-West trains

The con officially starts at around tea-time on the Friday night and closes mid-afternoon on the Monday.

Some people do get there on the Thursday night a) partly to help with set up b) so they don't miss a thing and c) because now Jenny has started to do a regular evil quiz!

Really, all that happens before the opening ceremony is lots of mingling etc. so you can safely arrive on Friday without missing anything.

Just a thought from one of Dug's Feegling thread and this run of posts arising from a recent interview in which QI was mentioned...

QI... indeed!

I wonder how he'd do on there?
I'd love to see him on there. He could actually stand in for Stephen Fry. ;)
Or host the QI Discworld edition (QID)...

But yes - Terry could host and Alan and Stephen could go head to head but who would we have 'partnering' them?
Could this be something the Monks of Cool might have fun putting a Discified copycat format together at odd moments in the programming? Or have for a quasi-Klatch maybe...? :p

 OK - this email sent to Eelco and the Monks :p

Terry likes QI! lol

We've got this thread on the Terry Pratchett Forum on a recent interview he gave to The Guardian where he's talking about the way he studies and researchs for his novels and describes it as a kind of slightly more 'structured' QI learning curve. The thread is HERE...

It kind of struck home with some of the QI afficionados on the forum so... would it be an idea for the Monks of Cool to include a 'QI for Discworld' (QID) type panel on the progamme - perhaps with Terry as MC (or Pat as the Convention UberGeek) if we just copycat the panel format? Alternatively might it be possible to adapt the format to a Klatch(es)?

There are quite a lot of fans on the forum going to the Convention who're also QI junkies so you'd at least have a core audience of a dozen or so of us, but maybe even more ;)

PS - do we know if Stephen Fry and/or Alan Davies are Discworld fans...
