Quick correction: Although Christopher Lee did play Death in the 90s animation and in The Colour of Magic, in Hogfather, the role was voiced by Ian Richardson (who unfortunately passed away before they had shot The Colour of Magic).
Oh wow there was an animated series? Lots of good viewing material for me  Thank you!

Soul Music is the better of the two animations, in my opinion, but I am biased because I liked the music and I could almost identify which artists and songs were being alluded to. As music, they were just as allusion-filled as the book, and good music as well! Also, I was lucky enough to get the CD with the complete versions of the songs, not just the snippets in the video.

Wow, this is wonderful! I absolutely adore Christopher Lee and Sean Astin both in LOTR and the series, and I really feel that they were perfect for their roles :) Thanks for the super insightful reply!
Ooh! :) If you enjoyed Christopher Lee, and you liked LOTR, then you're in for treat. Look up "Christopher Lee Tolkien Ensemble" on YouTube. Here's a little taster - Christopher Lee as Treebeard! :)

Yes! :) Two of Terry's books -- Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters -- were animated by Cosgrove Hall, the same people who animated Danger Mouse. Look them up on YouTube, and I'm sure you'll find them. :)

Only You Can Save Mankind did actually get a full adaptation... as a stage musical! I know very little about it because it was so long ago and I don't think it's ever been done again.

There are indeed TV shows of Johnny and the Dead and Johnny and the Bomb. I've not watched them, unfortunately. Same goes for Truckers - I know it exists, just never seen it.

Then of course, there's Good Omens, and The Amazing Maurice, two recent adaptations that are very good. And another, which shall not be named, which isn't.

Thank you all so much for your replies! It's amazing how many film adaptations of the Pterry books there are, like I said, lots of good viewing material to keep me occupied :) Also, RathDarkblade, I never knew that Christopher Lee was Treebeard!! Time for a rewatch of the series...

Just FYI - Christopher Lee didn't play Treebeard in the films. He just sang Treebeard's song with The Tolkien Ensemble, who are a group of people that took all of Tolkien's songs and set them to music. :)

They're on YouTube. Gosh, EVERYTHING is on YouTube these days. =P

This article presents an interesting list of how good the adaptations have been:

I think I probably agree with their ordering, apart from the fact that I've not seen Truckers or the Johnny TV adaptations.

If the filmed version of National Theatre's live 'Nation' would count, I'd slot it in at 9.5. It was not very good.
123movies https://0123movies-hd.net/ has become my favorite platform for streaming movies! The selection is vast, featuring everything from the latest blockbusters to hidden gems, so there's always something exciting to watch. The streaming quality is superb, with no buffering issues, and I appreciate the simple navigation that makes finding my next movie a breeze. It’s the perfect choice for any film lover!
For me, *Hogfather* is the best Discworld adaptation so far. It really captured the essence of Pratchett’s humor and the magical yet quirky world he built. *The Colour of Magic* is a close second—though a bit uneven, it was fun seeing Rincewind brought to life. I was less impressed with *The Watch*, as it felt too disconnected from the source material, but I’m hopeful future adaptations will do better!

I would be presently surprised if there was anymore Discworld film adaptions, but I don't think there will be.
Definitely nothing solid announced, for sure. The rights are all with Motive Pictures and Endeavour Content (as announced here in 2020: https://discworld.com/sir-terry-pra...-life-in-a-series-of-definitive-screen-ada-2/ ) but as to when we'll actually see anything, who knows?

The Amazing Maurice was a fairly good animated adaptation (although they did make the story much more suitable for younger children); Good Omens Season 3 will probably get finished (even if Neil Gaiman fully drops out due to the current allegations against him), but beyond that, who knows?

When Terry was still alive, the rights to The Wee Free Men had bounced around a few studios, eventually being partnered with the Jim Henson Company, with a draft script by Rhianna Pratchett, but there's been no movement on that since 2014, so it's possible the rights will revert to Narrativia at some point anyway.

I know that Rob Wilkins (via Narrativia) is keen to get screen adaptations made, it's just a matter of convincing the people with the money (big TV networks or film distributors) to partner with the production companies (like Endeavour) to actually get them under way. To be honest, I'd be happy to see more animated adaptations (films or series) for some of Pratchett's work, e.g. the Bromeliad or Nation, because they'd probably be cheaper to do that way.

Allegations? What? What happened?

I also wonder if I can find Good Omens on DVD (or Blu-Ray). I managed to find Season 1 on DVD, and loved it.

Has Narrativia said they would (or might?) do anything about it?

There is a legendary story about an American studio approaching Terry and asking to do Mort. There was only one caveat: Death had to be completely written out of the story.

A jaw-aching laugh later, Terry asked why, and they told him that their audience wouldn't buy it. Their attitude in a nutshell? "It's wonderful, it's 'high-concept', just lose the Death angle, guys."

And at this point STP told them to come back when they were taking fewer drugs. ;)

This report came out earlier this year: https://www.tortoisemedia.com/2024/07/03/exclusive-neil-gaiman-accused-of-sexual-assault/

There is an investigation still under way, so we don't know the truth as of yet. There may be a court case in New Zealand in future.

I don't know if they've released Season 2 on BR or DVD as yet.

Nothing publicly, but I don't think they would until things are 100% certain.
