Hot off the massive news that Disney have bought the rights to Star Wars, MTV Geek reported yesterday that another huge franchise may soon be donning those silly little mouse ears and calling the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse home. That’s right kids of the 1980′s, dust off your classic action figures – Disney have their sights set on getting hold of Hasbro and more importantly Transformers.
Walt Disney Pictures made headlines over the last few years when it bought out comics giant Marvel and then more recently struck a multi-billion dollar deal with George Lucas to take control over the much coveted Star Wars Universe, guaranteeing geeks everywhere at least one more movie set post original trilogy.
Although simply buying out Hasbro would not guarantee Disney the rights to Optimus Prime for the big screen – they presently reside at Paramount – it will certainly be able to utilise the manufacturing rights for the toy lines, as well as acquiring the rights to other classic toys including Hungry Hippos, Monopoly and even GI Joe.
Coughing up a few billion dollars to buy out Hasbro would also prove beneficial to Disney as Hasbro is still a primary retailer for Star Wars action figures and merchandise and has already collaborated with The House of Mouse on its own movie tie ins.
No official word has yet come out so please act surprised when it finally does leak to the world – and kindly keep your Transformers/Star Wars/Marvel crossover wet dreams to yourself, thanks.

Honestly, this could be pretty good for Star Wars. I rewatched the second trilogy with a friend last Christmas. The Phantom Menace was awful, Attack of the Clones was at least somewhat entertaining and Revenge of the Sith was pretty bad too. Disney got the Marvel movies right - they might make Star Wars fun again too. Worst case scenario, they'll further ruin a franchise that was dying anyway

I could see someone taking up the mantle. maybe they tap into the unleashed storyline and say he had an apprentice on the side. and didn't some of the books/comics turn Luke to the dark side? though this is still rumor at this point, and some fans were upset so yeah, take it with a truck of salt.
as for the deal, they said Lucasfilm would be independant for the most part, Kathleen would have autonomy like marvel does. and I trust Kathleen. This could be the best thing to happen to both lucasfilm and star wars.

Disney has confirmed that it is working on stand-alone Star Wars movies.
CEO Bob Iger revealed that Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi writer Lawrence Kasdan as well as Sherlock Holmes scribe Simon Kinberg are involved in the spinoff films, set within the sci-fi universe but separate to JJ Abrams's Episode 7 and future instalments 8 and 9.
"We are in fact working on a few stand-alone films," Iger told CNBC. "Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga.
"So we plan to make Star Wars 7, 8 and 9 over roughly a six-year period of time starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time too."
The announcement follows speculation that Disney and Lucasfilm are preparing an individual picture based around Yoda.
Man of Steel director Zack Snyder was also rumoured to be overseeing a Star Wars film based on Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, but he swiftly denied the reports.
Iger went on to confirm that Kasdan and Kinberg are also working with Abrams as consultants on Episode 7, which is being written by Toy Story 3's Michael Arndt.
