Well I like Matt Smith. :) I like the way he manages to seem like a really young man who is incredibly old. And I like the way they have moved away from the eye candy type of guy from the last few incarnations. Doctor Who was never about that and having everyone fall madly in love with the last guy was just silly.
   Oh come ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We girls have had to sit through 156 different old wrinkly scruffy dodgy doctors with thier ASSISTANTS  running around in miniskirts that barely covered their belly buttons let alone thier arse while you blokes oggled them (and dont deny it; there are enough posts about "Cooooooooor remember.....")

We get ONE ONE dishy one FINALLY and its "Oh he's too pretty!" :p

Catch-up......................... really now............

NOT eye-candy? (and a very fine Shakespearian actor too!)

So, Peter Davison wasn't a tasty dish as far as you were concerned, Del? :|

BTW, one of HIS companions is coming to Supanova down on the Gold Coast next month. Janet Fielding, aka Tegan. :)

Ok Del, *types from under the desk* I have to admit that he's cute and I did adore watching him! He just didn't spring to mind when the term "eye candy" popped up. Truce!

Willem, I have to agree with you. I would rather eat glass than watch another episode with Rose and Mickey. Loved Donna! I thought she was funny. While I really enjoyed David Tennant (see Del!), Matt Smith has been great too, and definitely does those child-like moments of glee well. There have been a few episodes I haven't been crazy about, but most of them are really entertaining, so I don't get the criticism of Moffat either.

Maybe Willem will let you in his safe-room catch-up.

You know I adore Dr Who..... no such thing as a BAD episode when they seem so bare on the ground these days (new episodes at any rate). I am fine with Matt Smith. Buts he isnt eye candy. Peter Davison is okay too but he's not DT. *sigh* And for your information Willem... David had way more range that "angry" and "sad".... he does "sexy", and he does "smoldering", and he does "come over here and lick the screen you know you want to"............. ummmm where were we? o_O

I think Q gave a very concise answer to the Dr Who writing thing somewhere before. They all have good eps. Some are good some arent SO good but hey its still Dr Who. And yes I do prefer it when the story unravels over a series and its up to you to find the clues. We just rewatched the series about The Master and the drums, etc on TV and it was great to check out the background for clues again.

Two nights ago "The library" ep was on... the one where the Dr meets Riversong for the "first time". Wonderful seeing in retrospect and looking "forward" to looking back over the next series.

Loved Donna too.

I thought Donna was the worst ever assistant, she really spoiled it for me all she did was shout and I don't like her much as a comedian either. :|
I agree. I really didn't like Donna. Martha was my favourite.

... and this time round it's the time of Farscape and Stargate SG-1 star Ben Browder, who'll appear in a Wild West episode written by Being Human creator Toby Whithouse.
OMG! how did i miss this?? Swoon :auto-ambulance:

Edit: Donna and Rory have been the best assistants yet since it was restarted, why? Because they showed no smoochy love for the Doctor AND they challenged his dark side more than once. Also, way more entertaining. I wasn't a massive Catherine Tate fan before but her character Donna was brilliant. :snooty:

I'm with Spidey on Catherine Tate.

Was horrified when I heard she'd been cast as a permanent companion, only to be proved greatly wrong by her performance.

I can't stand her "comedy" either, but her portrayal of Donna was brilliant.

I agree, it was because she didn't go all mopey eyed over the Doctor that made her a much better companion, in my opinion, than Martha.

Poor Freema, the stuff they gave her didn't give her a chance really.

I concur. What could have easily have made them crappy turned out to be their better features.

I hate Amy not because of the whole romance thing, but because she seems to be too bland as a companion. At first, I thought this was due to Karen Gillian's acting, but after watching The Girl Who Waited, I realised her acting wasn't the problem, it was the f***ing material she was given. Gillian is capable of acting pretty damn well, but it seems like not enough thought has been put into her character, and Amy is beginning to remind me of another red-headed companion... o_O

One of the best things about Donna was the Doctor's reaction to her! I love Amy and Rory, but I agree with Q. They don't give Amy much range, you just keep getting more of the same.

What I find most irritatiing about both Matt and Karen's performances are that they speak way too fast and mumbly and I'm forever having to rewind the scene to try and hear what they have said.

I agree and I also think that Rory is hardly ever in it even though he's been on it for 2 whole seasons now

Personally, I wish they'd drop Amy off somewhere, and the Doctor and Rory travel space and time. Boys gone wild!!
No Rory wouldn't continue travelling without Amy.What they should do is kill Rory and Amy and regenerate the Doctor.
Yeah a boy assistant! One with long lean legs and stunning eyes and and and ...... shame Capt Jack was gay.

DONT kill them off!!!! Oh!
