Of course, another theory was posited by a short story, where an avatar of the TARDIS actually did that whole sequence, and explored Skaro with the Doctor during the events of Destiny of the Daleks, because the TARDIS was jealous of Romana.
Ooh! Is this fan-fiction?

And of course this little nugget blows the whole notion of limited regenerations out the water.

Well... I know it's not canon, but I had to share.
Great fun, I remember it well as if it was only 14 years ago (oh it was 14 years ago) Interestingly it was the first Doctor Who written by Steven Moffat, I wonder what he is doing now  It wasn't the last time Richard E Grant played The Doctor either as he voiced the animated story Scream of the Shalka in 2003

Not exactly. It's in the licenced short stories collection Short Trips: Companions. Specifically, the story called The Lying Old Witch in the Wardrobe by Mark Michalowski. Synopsis here: http://www.drwhoguide.com/whotrip5.htm#7 He also wrote the officially licenced Doctor Who novels Relative Dimentias, Halflife, Wetworld and Shining Darkness.

I believe there was a throw-away line by Matt Smith's Doctor in an episode of Sarah-Jane Adventures where he basically said a Time Lord could regenerate over and over.

This from Den of Geek:

Matt Smith's Doctor is asked by Clyde just how many times he can regenerate. The Doctor tells him that there's not a limit. Then they just get on with the episode.
Didn't he say '507'? It's a good number of times.

I didn't get to watch the first 5 or so minutes but the new episode wasn't bad. I'm wondering whether that leaf "the first page" has any significance to the series.

I can't get into the new Doctor Who series, it gets dafter & dafter.

That was easily the best line in a pretty poor episode which was just trying to lay down some markers for the rest of the series without bothering to tell a half decent story at the same time.

Season openers are rarely excellent, anyway, in the new series, with only The Impossible Astronaut and Asylum of the Daleks being the exceptions.

Oh God, no! Not the tombstone-toothed chav! My least favorite Who character EVER.

Lets hope she appears only to be killed off - or even better, wiped out of existence.
What about Mel? Or Amy? They were way worse than Rose IMO.
