Doctor Who: Let's Kill Hitler

Doctor Who star Matt Smith has claimed that the show's upcoming mid-series premiere is the best episode yet.

The actor praised Steven Moffat's 'Let's Kill Hitler' at the recent Television Critics Association press tour.

"I think 'Let's Kill Hitler' is maybe my favourite episode to date," he said. "It just rockets along."

Smith also promised that mysteries introduced in the first half of the sci-fi drama's sixth run will be resolved in future episodes.

"We've still got to understand just what happened to the Doctor in episode one," he hinted. "Steven [Moffat] has always delivered the payoff to all these revelations, in a way that is exactly what you would want it to be. It doesn't disappoint."

Smith's co-star Karen Gillan recently revealed that 'Let's Kill Hitler' will feature a "really cool robot villain".

"It goes back in time and fixes people that have done [something] wrong in history," she explained.

Doctor Who will return to BBC America in the US on August 27 and will likely air on the same day on BBC One in the UK.

I dont understand why SciFi writers have it in for Mr Hitler...

After all there have been bigger megalomaniacs and mass murderers in History, Stalin (old uncle Joe) and Communism in general for example... So why not make the Dr Who Lets Kill Stalin...

... or even better Lets Kill Marx.

I'm going out on a limb and say Hitler's more interesting than your example, Stalin, for a couple of reasons. This will probably contain some factual errors since it's mostly based on truthiness on my side:

Hitler was elected, Stalin grabbed power.

Hitler had (at least in the beginning) people who loyally stood by his cause. Stalin had people doing his bidding because they were afraid. In other words, Hitler had charisma (terrible word to use about such an awful man) and knew how to bind people to him personally.

Stalin joined the fight against Hitler (after Germany violated the non-aggression pact). Allies needed him to win the war. The enemy of my enemy is my friend and such. Even though he did many terrible things, 'at least he helped us out in our time of need' - forgetting that was out of self-interest too.

Stalin's victims were mostly among his own people. Things that happen close to home have a much bigger impact on how we feel. If we go by the numbers, we'd say Stalin was responsible for about 15 million deaths (or up to 60 million according to other sources in Sovjet Russia.
