yes all very cryptic and strange and no doubt we are all meant to be coming up with various theories about who is in the spaceman suit, is it River? Is it Amy's child, but what I want to know, what REALLY confused me is why was there an info dump at the beginning? It's rather insulting really.
Rivers says at one stage how the Doctor met her and knew EVERYTHING about her... and he knows less and less as they keep meeting... can't figure out how that one works..... but raises the issue is the girl in the suit Rivers....

Q.. I find intellectually scarey the scariest of all.... Feel this episode is just setting us up for the series... and thats a bit disappointing. Anyone know when the Niel Gamian episode is? How far in...

How does time travel work when you are pregnant? Why has she told The Doctor and presumably not Rory? Why is she holding her stomach?

The Doctor has died during a regeneration.... how will that work?.... hmmmmmm.

This had BETTER be a bloody good series.

All your questions will be sort of answered in episode two Del (except showing the Neil Gaiman episode) but I won't give anything away here except to say all your questions are very perceptive about what happens.

All I will say is that I found several scenes in episode two downright frightening.
(I guess I'm a wimp)

The girl in the suit is NOT River Song. My reasoning why, I've put in spoilers.

The Doctor has never twigged to the possibility that River is a Time Lord or rather Time Lady (given how he claims to be able to sense Time Lords, it seems contradictory not to recognise River as one). And yet the girl in the spacesuit shows the ability to regenerate at the end of Day of the Moon.

From what I've heard, the Doctor doesn't twig to the fact that the kid is a Time Lady, but maybe you can't if they haven't regenerated. Fan lore states that Time Lords don't grow a second heart until after their first. Maybe the Doctor can't quite sense another Time Lord until after their first regeneration. And then again, if the girl is an engineered hybrid of Time Lord and human (perhaps explaining why she needs the spacesuit as a life-support system), that could also explain why he couldn't sense her.

I say, River is human. She probably has some relation to Amy, but I doubt that River is Amy's daughter, or a Time Lady.
Whether or not the girl in the spacesuit is Amy's child-in-potentia is another kettle of fish entirely.

I don't mind it. It's certainly better than The Eleventh Hour as far as season openers go. And as The Mad Collector stated, the Neil Gaiman episode is the fourth one, on in just over three weeks. Supposedly, we will be meeting someone that we haven't seen since The War Games. That means only three people: Zoe (yes, please!), Jamie, and the War Chief.

Post-hypnotic suggestion from the Silence, I believe that they imply later. The Silence probably said that to Amy (and thus, the Doctor) the Doctor to lure him somewhere, or to impair his ability to fight them.

It was already stated during Turn Left that if his body dies before fully regenerating, he dies, period. During at least three regenerations, the Doctor actually came close to dying permanently (Planet of the Spiders, where he needed K'Anpo/Cho-Je's help to regenerate after dying in Sarah's arms; The Caves of Androzani, where he tells Peri that he might regenerate, but he doesn't know whether he will, as 'it feels different this time'; and the TV Movie, where the Doctor states that he nearly died permanently because of the anaesthetic used in a botched operation to cure what the surgeons thought was a heart condition), and in the novelisation of Battlefield, while being throttled by a snake made of plasma, the Doctor recalls a Time Lord lecture that states that regeneration is impossible with total brain death.

Just to be picky, it's actually The Silent.

I thought it was Silence until I saw the end credits on Saturday.

Anyhooo, carry on.......
Silent is the singular, and Silence is the plural. For that species, anyway. I meant that the Silence (the race as a whole, or at least its planners) might have wanted Amy to tell the Doctor in order to manipulate him.

Just watched Day of the Moon. It's an excellent story, but I wish it didn't leave so much in the air. It's pretty much certain that the girl is Amy's (I'm not putting it in spoiler tags now that it's out in Australia), but it makes you wonder why she, well, demonstrates that rather rare ability at the end of the episode. Something tells me the Silence made her that way... o_O

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... so many questions to be answered this series..... soooooooooo excited.
Yes, like... (spoilers)

*What did the Silence have to do with the cracks in the universe from the last series? Why (and how) did they get the TARDIS to blow up?

*Why is that control room seen in The Lodger similar to that the Silence used? And is its similarity to a TARDIS coincidental or not?

*Why did the Doctor allow (or even order) the astronaut to shoot him? Was it the girl?

*What does the girl have to do with Amy? Is she Amy's child in potentia? And how come she has the ability to regenerate? Is this ability something the Silence put in?

*Is that really the Doctor who got shot? Does old Canton really know that it isn't a duplicate or clone or something similar? And if so, how?

*Who is River Song? Or rather, more to the point, who did she murder?

Questons me and my daughters discussed.....

The photo of Amy and her daughter.....? I believe the girl is a younger River. She has the pic of Amy because she gets to know her and hence keeps her pic close even as a "child"... remember.... Rive and the doc are travelling different ways in time? So can River be getting younger?

The set from the lodger... I think they just reused it.... did you watch Dr Who Confidential?

LOVED the bit about the moon landing.... that "Blip" in the moon telecast has ALWAYS annyed the shit out of me, and if you ever see an interview with Neil Armstrong says it blipped his real words.... that one small step for A man..... not for man.

What annoys me? NOT everyone on the planet HAS seen the moon landing....! Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

WHY did the Silence spend thousands of years on earth until man made a space suit? Were they waiting? and if so... could they see into the future or did they just WAIT til civilisation just GET to that stage.

WHY do they wear 1960/50's suits... what did they wear before? Have they changed through the ages in dress? WHY was the orphanage so important? If it IS the little girls home.... then surely she can't be Amy's child.

Does Rivers kill Rory?

They are meeting in different directions in time. However, I believe that the links between River and Amy are tenuous.

They deliberately reused it. That's the point.

They probably didn't need the technology until shortly before the Space Race, or more likely, the Moon Race, began. Remember, the girl, despite her Time Lord abilities, is only young. And the Silence are not unique in developing humanity. Azal of the Daemons did. So did Scaroth of the Jagaroth, and the Fendahl.

Or maybe they wore it all that time, and our dress sense was influenced by it. Irrelevant question.

But in all likelihood, it isn't the girl's actual home. Doesn't it occur to you that, if she is Amy's child, the Silence took the girl away from her? Perhaps even ripped the girl out of her?

Disagree with you Q.... Rivers and Amy are linked somehow.... either emotionally or in time. I don't believe Rivers kills the Doctor. Way too obvious.

The Doctor said the Silence were WAITING for space suit technology.... and the girl is a child.... so why did they wait... did they forsee? Or CREATE the child? If the child is Amy's.... is she able to regenerate because it affected the baby invitro with the space travel? Hmmmmmm... you DO realise I have NO idea.....  just throwing it out there.
