Hello and weclome to the forum.
What you have there is (most likely) an oddly placed press-echo without an annotiation as to which paper wrote it.

Ill actually get time to have a look round the local charity shops Friday for some and there was a big book sale event local to me Saturday just gone there weren't any Discworld books there though. :( I don't want to just keep using ebay and amazon.

They were having a lot of trouble trying to describe Terry's writing in the early days. So you see a lot of such comparisons - very few of them really work, but you have to remember that this was the first book in the series and the publishers wanted people to be intrigued enough to pick the book up and read it.

So mentioning famous humorous writers such as Jerome K Jerome (Three Men in a Boat) and books such as LOTR and Peter Pan are more marketing ploys than anything.

Terry has said that Discworld is a bit like Middle Earth several hundred years after all the wars, when all the various races settle down and try to get along.

Colour of Magic is a somewhat different Discworld book, but it's very worthwhile reading. ;)

I was going to read it again yesterday but noticed my copy is brand new and would rather not crease it. I'll just wait till I get a reading copy before reading the discworld again. And how much is postage on a book like this if anyone found one cheap?

Ive been scouring the charity shops of port talbot today and no TP books whatsoever. I picked up 3 early edition Harry Potter books though. Thats the first time I have ever been in a charity shop. Amazon is £1.29 free delivery Ill get that one instead.
