Only when I run out of them (my ability to organise laundry services is possibly worse than my driving)* - mindjew I've always fancied commandos 8)

*Come to think of it my life would be just about perfect if I could find a decent wife somewhere...

Promoting the forum at the Convention

I've asked Tony about doing a spot of promotion work at the Convention for the forum and at his suggestion I've been in touch with Lynsey Dearheart who's a Press Officer at Random House as well as a fellow forum member (she was the one who let us know about the 5-a-side knockout compy for the UA launch).

Anyway I've had the following reply from her -

Lynsey Dearheart said:
Hi Jan,

We are more than happy for you to advertise the forum at the convention and if I can help in anyway please let me know.

Best wishes,
Lynsey
All I'm thinking of at the moment is maybe bringing a laptop with me to the convention and let people have a look at the forum 'live' and maybe having some flyers to hand out (and definitely asking for help with the costs of that although I can produce those easily enough myself).

for the flyer side of it I'm not thinking of anything too elaborate but using the main banner

in some shape or form.

I'll be getting onto the convention organisers now we've had a general nod from the site owners on what we can set up, but before I do that does anyone else have any other ideas of stuff we can put together to push the forum that won't be too expensive or time-consuming to organise and......

For those who are going to be at the convention if any of you would like to give me a hand with the actual 'promoting' :p

Nice one Jan!

Maybe some sort of business cards could be made and either handed out or put in convention goody bags (if they have them). The cards could have the forum logo and the web address.

Maybe the cards could say "Join the Pratchett Forum - we have Pooh!"

Good stuff - keep 'em coming

Can put something together for biz cards v. easily and with a publisher to help that wouldn't take much organising even if it was just a cheque for getting them done locally. If there's roughly 1000 people it wouldn't even be that expensive as the more you order the cheaper it gets - same for flyers ;)

Just a thought - I wonder if a bookmark of the forum banner could be made with the web address on. :)
I take it you mean hard copy bookmarks? Yes no probs with getting that done and more handy and less 'forgettable' than a titchy biz card.

As for slogans :p Well the in-jokes are good of course but possibly actionable on both pooh or pants (Disney 'own' the rights to pooh now and the other connotation might upset Random House a tad) as knowingly misrepresenting Terry and Discworld ;)
So far the least 'offensive' and funny (sorry Sjoerd) is - you don't have to be mad to join the Pratchett Forum but it helps!!!!!

Anyone want to describe us without having to explain why its so funny?

Ooooh me too! Me too!

I'm happy to help promote the forum with you Jan (how might that work? I don't have to wear a spangly leotard do I? My leotard-wearing days are definitely behind me  )

 Spangly leotards do not figure in my plans in any shape or form Dotsie - especially in day-glo hues....

Yes please to help on the day(s). I'm hoping that the publishers might be able to augment the hicksville idea I have mind, which is a not too big table and laptop and some flyers to hand out plus the ability to talk enthusiastically to anyone who wants to talk to us - I think my wearing a leotard spangly or otherwise would not achieve this!

Re the bookmark - the JPEG can be made available on here for print out at home if you're not going to the convention ;)
