Cheers Ponder - the bookmark's 'full' now (if I try and squeeze any more on I'll have to take the type sizes down to silly hard to read levels)

However... I'm currently talking to Lynsey the Press officer at Transworld and I may be doing a leaflet/flyer too so by all means send some more in as there will be more room on that ;)

I can't remember whether I mentioned this but I also heard from Transworld (Lyndsay Dallaway) again after sending them samples of the bookmark.

Now she's fine with the design but a little reluctant about meeting printing costs as they're forking out so much for the books to be promoted as it is - they're obviously sponsoring a lot of the events there. She's currently getting print quotes - apparently they'll have to go out of house for this which seems a leetle odd for publishers who'd outsource that anyway, so they might not be coughing up to print these at all.

I can see to getting them printed myself if push comes to shove, either with an online outfit who are generally pretty competitive, but I can actually print them myself if the costings work out OK (and I could do with a new guilletine anyway). There's going to be 900 conventioneers plus helpers etc so call it 1000 x bookmarks? That's not an awful lot for a pro print run, but it's a lot to do on a bog standard colour printer even though I've got a good fully registered template (6 book marks per sheet so 167 x A4 sheets altogether), as they have to trimmed....

So if I'm having to produce these without Transworld I could do the lot reasonably cheaply without them look completely chatty. I'm roughly estimating on a reasonably good A4 colour printer I could do this with 1x4 CMYK ink cassette(s) and on 280 micron white card, so hopefully Lyndsey will find that the costings aren't too great if it's done commercially, even if they're using better quality materials.

If Transworld won't stump up then we'll have the bookmarks anyway, but no leaflets as that would jack the costs up unless a few more people can chip in to help with the print production/print costs. If I did 1000 bookmarks and leaflets, it would cost roughly under £100 to do the lot so if anyone has a decent colour printer (doesn't matter if it's laser or inkjet so long as it can print A4 card and if it can handle borderless that'd be good) I'd appreciate your help if it's necessary :)

Input/Help needed please!

Thanks for the response Ponder - I did a rough pricing whilst I writing my last and if we wanted to do leaflets as well as bookmarks then I/someone will have to get in cardstock and ink so for both it came in at around the £100 mark or just under.

I think it's best to see what Lynsey has to say so I'll push her on that next week and if they can do it then NP. ;)

If not I'll get the bookmarks done myself as I have enough cardstock anyway - but the DWCon attendees may need to help me cut them out if I don't get a new guillotine for my birthday...

Oooo! That's sounds great Bouncy - if it can print on thinnish card it'll be even better than great! ;)

Like I said I'll check in with Lynsey next week and if they can't help with a kosher print run then we'll talk turkey.

Still not too sure about doing a leaflet/flyer - does anyone think this would be worthwhile as there's stuff we could put on there about all the forums and 'highlight' some of our shinier areas/threads? If we did a flyer (one side of the sheet) that would be a saving on ink if nothing else... ;)

OK. This is the second time of trying to post. Damned dongle internet access.

What's the GSM of the paper?

How many are we talking about? Thousands?

My printer doesn't do back and front. Would that be a problem?

What's the programme that the original artwork is in, only I only have the standard Office programmes - Word, Excel, etc? I do have Microsoft Publisher.

If I PM you my addy, could you send a sample of the paper? If so, I could print something off in all it's colourful glory, and send it back to you.

Jane.

Thanks for this Bouncy

What's the GSM of the paper? 215gsm or 280 micron card (like greetings cards basically)

How many are we talking about? Thousands? 1000 tops I think

My printer doesn't do back and front. Would that be a problem? Nope - you just flip em over after the 1st print run and then print the other side ;)

What's the programme that the original artwork is in, only I only have the standard Office programmes - Word, Excel, etc? I do have Microsoft Publisher. Publisher might be OK but I haven't got that - I've been using print application on the basis that Transworld should be able to use them, but I can do you a Word version. The images themselves are all JPEGs so usual image imports won't be a prob. Alternatively I can do you a PDF version which may be better all around

Thanks and PM me with your contacts anyway. Once I've talked to Lynsey the PR lady at Transworld again (and depending on whether they'll see to it for us) I can get the templates fixed for Word and send you samples so we can see how they turn out. They should look much better in laserprint I would say.

The bookmark templates will need precision placing as there's a different design on the front to the back so I'll see if I can get it so it's easy to place on A4 so there's no overlapping - I've got a 'normal' Epson printer and so far the registration on the samples I'm using have all been good with no or neglible white edges so hopefully this won't be a prob as office laserprinters are generally much better with that.

To everyone going to the convention...

Online booking for the Gala Dinner (Sunday evening) is now open.

Thing is  you can put in a request to sit with friends so long as they do the same (and aside from having people you know to yell or lob bread rolls at, there may be pre-nupts to celebrate too ;) ) but you need to quote their member no'sas well as their names... Me (A825) and pooh (A824) are easy to find as is Sjoerd (A885) - I think I've spotted Dotsie (Jo - A832?) but no sign of Who's Wee Dug under his profile anyway and I don't know if anyone else on here is going but if you are would you like to do this as well?

Because of that I haven't booked myself in yet, so the question is - are you going to this bash and if so, do you want to let me help you eat your dessert... ...I mean go as a group? :p
