Gotta love goodie bags  I'm wondering what this other thing she's getting printed with it is now

OKie-doke - I've got a bookmark template that anyone can download that should print out on your home printers OK ...

It's HERE and in PDF format (if you haven't got a PDF reader then Adobe have a FREE one HERE)

The template's for A4 front and back images and you simply print one side then flip the paper/card over on the long side (so both sides images line up properly) and put it through again to print t'other side. Or just print the side you like best! ;)

For best results use card and you get 6 lovely bookmarks to give to friends and family and do your own bit of forum promotion ;)

OK - leaflet stuff

Have made a goodish start with this and I'll be using all the snappy one-liners that might not get used on the bookmark due to production needs at Transworld.

One thing I do need is proofing for the forum descriptions - or to rewrite altogether as I'm finding it hard to make time for this just now. So here's what I've got so far...

The Broken Drum ~ our general discussion forum which may or may not always be about Discworld but is very lively, friendly and a great way to meet and get to know other Pterry enthusiasts and just have a good old natter about anything under the sun - even if it’s a very tiny one that has to negotiate continent sized elephant legs and trunks...

Terry Pratchett ~ this is where we go to talk about the man himself and other aspects aside from the writing. Lots of thought-provoking topics on Terry’s public appearances and fund-raising, plus advance news of major Roundworld events like Discworld Conventions and lectures.

Latest books ~ What it says! We talk about what’s coming up, when it’s likely to be published and where you can get hold of a copy a.s.a.p. Occasionally we’ll indulge in geekiness such as comparing cover art on UK and US editions, or the hot buys on auction sites - you know how it gets when you’re a collector...

Discworld novels ~ A very busy forum with debates ranging from the silly to the cerebral on the gamut of the Discworld including top or least favourite characters and books. Plus ‘book of the month’ discussions.

Non-Discworld books ~ which do include Terry’s work as well of course, but in here there’s something for all bibliophiles of any stripe, although sci-fi and fantasy do seem to dominate... Variety is good though. Especially when you know that you have some tastes in common with the other contributors!

Children’s books ~ There is justification in saying Terry doesn’t truly write for children or young adults as such. However, he does write about children and young adults in several series and, indeed in Where’s My Cow? for toddlers... Anyway, however you read it, this one’s for the young at heart and to look at other authors’ works.

TV, film, theatre ~ This iswhere everyone’s a potential critic and full and frank exchanges will run from the juvenile to the academic... Who are we kidding?! This is a great way to find out how much is hype and the realtive appeal of the latest cinematic trends, crazy TV serialisations and thespian endeavour. Terry’s stuff’s there too...

Games ~ Mainly of the word variety and a lot of it to do with Discworld. Some real brain teasers in here too, with general Disc knowledge, quotes, and tag writing - even logic and elimination games like Mafia/Werewolf which is pretty surprising given some of our nutty membership. It all good fun in this forum though!

Space is a consideration so I need to retain roughly the same word count (under not over else the type gets too titchy! o_O ). If you think something's wrong say so, especially if you can do a re-write as this isn't going to work as well if I do all the input ;) In other words I'm not married to this as it's about the forum and not exclusively my view of it however flattering that is :p

Pooh - I misled you! Bavarois is a kind of bavarian creamy posh custard type thing usually with a liqueur in it - it is put onto Rum Babas (which are also known as Savarins, hence my confusion). Sorry

Bookmark news! This from Transworld & Lynsey
I have decided that I can make 800 bookmarks for the convention give or take. But to make it part of the publicity strategy I’m going to print something we’re doing with Terry on one side – I can't tell you what that is yet it’s a surprise! And have the forum on the other side. We are supplying the goodie bags not filling them so I’ll get in touch with the chairman and ask if the bookmarks can be added to the goodie bags by his team.

 So I'll be sending the artwork over to her and that's all out of our hands, and may well be in the goodie bags too. From her description of the print layout it looks as though this will be a one print side job so I'll send her the turtle design side.

The 'back' design with our quotes (all of them so far now, plus any that I've not already used) can now go into a leaflet design to go on the reception area for people to pick up and if Bouncy's still OK with doing some printing then I'll take those with me to the convention, so I'll get cracking on that next week. The leaflet will be easier to print anyway as there's no crucial registration to cope with. ;)
Ooooh. Good job I looked in this thread!

How many are we talking about, and are they back and front, coz that could cause a problem or ten.

I was going to PM you soon anyway Bouncy

The bookmarks are Transworld's baby now so no worries on getting back and front registration bang on as they'll use pro printers to do that (they may not do a back print-off at all but that's up to their typesetters.

What I now need help for later this month is the leaflet print which is using more materials as its going to be single fold A5 - so around 1000 A4 heavy paper/light card. There is front and back printing but not as critical with the bookmarks, especially if we can do borderless which'll also mean minimal trimming if any.

The leaflet's not ready yet but samples are HERE and

The bookmark for self-printing is HERE - and has so far tested out for front and back lining up together OK when chopped up (the back's v.light so it's not so critical if the alignment's out - old pro's trick ;) )

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll be finalising the design content for the leaflet next week - in the meantime as our mods are too shy to do an individual piece to go on the back page I'd like to open this up again to -

ask everyone who wants to contribute to the leaflet to give 2 sentences max text bites on the subject of -
I'm glad I joined this forum because...

It'll go on something like this (I'm not doing this as the centre pages stuff in mine) -

I'm glad I joined this forum because... it's absolutely proved to me that I'm not as daffy as I thought I was. As well as having excellent taste is books -

or that kind of thingie ;)
