I bought the Markerade one today for £1.99 from a charity shop. Should I keep it or try to sell it on ebay with large postage costs? I also found a first edition Wyrd Sisters hardback, signed. Worth much?
It depends on condition - condition is everything on modern first editions, but have a look what they go for on Abe Books.
Holy Bazooley! And I was just about to write a post saying how CHEAP you guys buy your books for.......
Cheap as possible. As long as I can read the words... I only collect to read then all not to get every variation and edition, although I was annoyed halfway through Science 1 that there was a revised edition, still wondering about whether its worth the upgrade.
Not that much changed. I think it is so that the book doesn't look too dated! ;)

Saw the Unseen Library Edition of Soul Music in a shop the other day, (didn't buy it, it was The Works if anyone wants to check their local?), and was confused to see that the picture on the front was of Kidby's picture of Susan in Hogfather era, with the big perm. Surely it should've been the schoolgirl look?

What is all that about?

Only wanted to say that recently I made myself a list of Discworld titles that I needed to complete my collection and am having a lot of fun trawling the local charity shops and meeting the people who run them!
Who gives a ****** about condition and resale megabucks? I buy a book to read it and quite possibly read it more than once.
Did no one hear the rumour that the main function of a book is to be read?

Well yes, but a lot of people like to collect the books and if you are going to do that then you want the books in your collection to be in as good condition as possible.

These aren't books for reading - I suspect that the people who collect mint condition books also buy cheap tatty ones just to read. I have a lot of first edition Pratchett books, but they've all been read at least once. If I happen to see a cheap tatty copy then I'll buy it and read that so I don't have to worry about my nice copies getting damaged. ;)

My cousin treated me to the Death Trilogy. Published in 1998. Mint Condition. (£1.50).

It was, according to the bookplate, presented to Philip Bennett at Enfield Grammer school in 1999/2000 for Good Progress.

If you are reading this, Philip, I now own your book! You kept it beautifully!

The jacket write up on Terry made me laugh:

Terry Pratchett is fifty and lives behind a keyboard in Wiltshire, where he answers letters in a desperate attempt to find some time to write. He used to grow carnivorous plants, but now they have taken over the greenhouse and he avoids going in. He feels it may be time to get a life, since apparantly
they're terribly useful.

I found several of these earlier today and have been quite astounded by how much they are selling for online.
I managed to pick up numbers 1-6 in near perfect condition apart from the last which has a slightly stained back cover unfortunately for £1.50 each, if what you are saying about the price lull at the minute I might try and complete the set for my own collection for now. The first few books have always been particular favorites of mine anyway.

I want all my books to be pristine, I'm quite obsessive when it comes to looking after my books but I also don't mind too much if they do get a bit tattered (I will of course try my best not to have them that way). The first 7 books I have (COM - P) for example have spines that are falling off and the covers are bent but the insides are still readable and thats all that matters in the long run :)
