I don't often like to post posts from my blog but I thought this might be interesting conversation. Anyone else find it weird seeing posters for other films whillst watching a film. I illustrate with Die Another Day on a bus during Shaun of the Dead, I also remember seeing a poster for Fellowship of the Ring during Dirty Pretty Things

Does it pull you out of the film, do you ignore it or does it just make you giggle?

I don't mind seeing them, it's an effective way of setting the movie in a certain time (seeing a Star Wars poster means it's the 70s :)) -edit: that's what you said on your site too!

I prefer fake movie posters though, they're often funny.

Do you think it's sometimes product placement?

I think it's in Superman 2 there's a very prominent bus with a large advert for 'Evita' on the side. o_O

Sometimes for sure, in Confessions of a Shopaholic there are huge posters for other up and coming Jerry Bruckheimer productions such as CSI and G Force. But sometimes I am sure it's just an accident and then cleared by the film's company later in post-production.
