To be honest, the books I've bought for my Kindle are usually priced a few pence cheaper than you would pay for a paperback.

Having said that, since there's no paper, postage, or packing involved, they should really be a bit cheaper.

Publishers have always claimed that ebook prices are high because most of the costs involved with bringing a book to market have nothing to do with the printing costs. So now that they're selling both real books and ebooks, shouldn't the price of both be coming down?

The fact that they were conspiring to rob the consumer does not surprise me in the least. But I get most of my books from the library anyway, I hate paying for something insubstantial as a ebook!

They had an answer to amazon, lower their prices. thats what competition is for. but no, they'd rather keep their mark up.

shame this seems to be the direction of things. the gaming industry has been on fixed pricing for years, and now the tv set industry is following suit.

to me, it makes no sense. if everywhere you go everything is the same price, how does that help competition? then places like Wal-mart will dominate even more then they already do because people are lazy and will choose to do all their shopping in one place.

The ONLY way, i can see this helping, AT ALL, is if along with the retailers having set prices, the publishers/distributors/etc do to. so no retailer can get a discount. IE a big retailer won't be able to get the jump on a little independant by being able to get a discounted price because they can afford to buy more product at one time. thats part of the problem and what helps kill small businesses by not letting them compete.

the small independant book shops around here seem to have done better around here than waterstones and the other big chains as they have loyal customers that go in for a chat and a cup of tea, so that personal service works. i recently had to take my mrs to a meeting but i didnt go in so i went in a small bookshop just up from the meeting, now i hadnt been in there for years but the lady recognozed me and we had a chat and i spent 20 quid, my mrs went nuts  again, i realise i contradicted myself here but the small ones around here have loyal customers. i built a house a few years ago for someone who has her own bookshop basically as a hobby to get her out of the house but i do admit they were loaded anyway

I just got it for the Kindle on my laptop. I doubt I'll ever read it there, but "free" is my favourite price. Thanks Dug!
