NOT The land of the risen Son!!

If you build it, they will come!

47 Only A E I O Us

Alan's uncle Oswald is unbelievably eccentric. As an amusing and entertaining activitity, Oswald often assumes other identities.
Once, entirely attired as an Eskimo igloo architect, Oswald accosted an out-of-work accountant, exuded ignorance and asked only if April is after October.
On another occaision, attired in an exiled Iraqi insurgent outfit, Oswald inadvisably offended a uniformed army officer. Unfortunately, aforementioned army officer attacked and assaulted Oswald.
An array of alternative identities include an ancient Egyptian aardvark assessor, an Elizabethan earwax extruder and an owl .

Alan's overriding impression of Oswald is of an absolutely and utterly insane oddball, and always avoids Oswald.

In fact, you can pm me your votes for the qualifying round now, if you want.

Willem has sent me his, and just to show I'm not cheating, I've sent him mine.
I'll wait untill all entries are in
I intend to wait too. I need to consider all the entries.
How can anyone vote before all the entries are in?? ... or have alliances been formed?? ...

...because it's only the qualifying round!

The main reason for this round is to cut down the multiple entries from everyone. By the end of the round everyone who has submitted stories will have chosen the one or two they like best. The voting for other stories is just to get the seedings for the next round and the groups worked out.

Therefore it doesn't matter if you vote early. :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

Willem sent me his vote prematurely and as I'm organising this AND voting, it must be seen that I'm playing fair. Therefore I have to vote first and by sending my votes to Willem (who had already voted), there can be no accusations of cheating on my behalf. :geek:

In the next round I'll vote first and I'll send my votes to Batty.

For the record.

The qualifying round has to be secret because if you knew which stories people were voting for, you could make an educated guess as to which stories they wrote, which might effect your votes in later stages.

The group stage has to be secret because if you already knew the scores and voted last, you could effect the outcome in favour of your stories.

The groups are decided thusly;

The stories are placed into alternating groups (A, B, C, D) according to first, total votes, then second, chronological order.
Example

Story 1 - 1 vote
Story 2 - 1 vote
Story 3 - 2 votes
Story 4 - 4 votes
Story 5 - 5 votes
Story 6 - 4 votes
Story 7 - 1 vote
Story 8 - 4 votes

Therefore;

Group A - Stories 5 & 3,
Group B - Stories 4 & 1
Group C - Stories 6 & 2
Group D - Stories 8 & 7

Simple, huh?

pooh, the query about already voting is that there may be late entries that Willem prefers, but cannot vote for as he has already voted!

I've got the entries down to 8! I may have to get the Magic Pin of Fate out!!

NOT The land of the risen Son!!
The following has absolutely nothing to do with this wildly exciting Forum Writer of 2012 competition, but I thought I'd just share it with you because it's of interest to me.

There is a big tunnel under Tokyo Bay called the Aqua Line. It links the sleepy, countryside of Chiba (where I live) with the teeming metropolises of Yokohama, Kawasaki and Tokyo. From my house, using the Aqua line, it's possible to get to Haneda airport (Tokyo's second airport) in 40 minutes, Yokohama in 45 minutes and Tokyo in an hour. Haneda used to be for domestic flights only, until last year, when they started operating international flights.

Because Chinese and Korean people are filthy rich, loads of Chinese and Koreans are now coming to Japan on shopping trips to buy what they can't get in China and Korea. :p

So the Japanese have decided to build a massive shopping mall containing 171 shops, on cheap land in Chiba, 25 minutes from Haneda airport, and 20 minutes from my house.

This mall opens on April 13 and will feature the following UK brands; Burberry, Vivian Westwood, Cath Kidston, Paul Smith, Daks (which I think is British) and Wedgewood.

This is only phase 1.

So, 20 minutes from my house will be the biggest shopping mall in the whole of Japan!!

Well I think it's interesting!

All those British stores, but no f***ing Waterstones. Trust the builders of that damned mall not to have their priorities straight.
