I've just finished watching episodes 8 and 9 (The Pointy End and Baelor). Whoa. They did...well, screw spoilers. They did the death of Ned Stark very well. Very solemn and appropriate at the end.

But didn't Tyrion actually do battle against the Stark army in the book? I know it was only against the vanguard, but still, I was sure he got somewhere in the book, kicking arse and taking names. Maybe they couldn't find a stuntman for poor Peter Dinklage, who I feel deserves just about every award and accolade he gets.

Tyrion actively participates in the battle in the book. Even gives someone a terminal case of axe-related headache. But I will agree that his plotting of the battle of King's Landing in A Clash of Kings is even more awesome. And then, there's what he does to two of his enemies in A Storm of Swords, using a chain for one and a crossbow for the other.

Probably a budget issue, way cheaper to show him knocked out before the battle starts for real so you don't have to show the actual battle Shame though, in the book the battle showed he was willing and able to fight, in the show it felt more like a cheap laugh at the expense of a dwarf (making it a scene from Life's Too Short).

Looking forward to the King's Landing battle...that was some smart strategising!

Just watched the first episode. Pace was a bit slow and I could imagine some of it could be a bit confusing for someone who hasn't read the books.

I dunno...I watched the first episode of Season 2 and it was a bit...well...dull for me.

If you haven't read all of the books (I have), you're going to get confused mighty quickly. Already it's bringing in some of the many new plotflines (the conflict between the kingly aspirants) and the involvement of the Lovejoys and the Onion Pirate. I don't know how they're going to keep track of all these threads.

And I wouldn't expect to see any larger battle sets other than that created by CGI. There were relatively few scenes in the first series that showed more than 30-40 people at a time. I doubt they're going to devote budget to large scale battle scenes involving hundreds of paid extras. Much easier to show the aftermath, or focus on small one-on-one battles.

I've only read Book 1 so this is all new to me and I didn't have a problem with the aspirant kings angle except some mild confusion with the surviving Baratheon bros as there seem to be 3 now? :shifty: Not paying too much attention to that but I thought the younger one who was in Kings Landing was with Stannis in Ep 1 so I wasn't sure who Renly is that Rob's trying to ally with?

Will get it straight soon I expect Looking forward to Tyrion taking Joffrey down if nothing else - loved it when Cersei belted him but then she went and spoiled it

Anyhoo - everyone wants to be King of somewhere so it's not too hard to follow

I've only just started watching this from series one and am only up to the fourth episode. So far, I'm really enjoying it with most of the acting and script being of a good standard. One thing I am a bit uncomfortable with, however, is the very strong language used around (and by) the kids (including a very unpleasant four letter name for a "twinkle").
