Okay, well, after posting on the 'worst films' thread, I had this little bit of inspiration: make a thread where we post great trailers done for otherwise crappy films or, in my case, TV shows. Most of my posts will be DVD trailers for Doctor Who stories that I have judged as being...below average (and yes, I will have watched these ones). I'll do it in transmission order too.

I'll start with The Keys of Marinus.

Okay, so somebody's looking at this thread. But nobody's posting. I'll post two more trailers for The Space Museum/The Chase and The Ark. The Space Museum was crappy (at least in all parts bar the first one), not The Chase (which was entertaining).

This brings the Hartnell era of crappy stories to a close. Soon, The Dominators. Don't snigger. It's only masochistic to watch.

I always felt a bit guilty that Tony Hatch, a Brit, wrote that awful theme tune. But as it sort of matched the awful show, it's fair exchange.

Now this show was in a different class altogether. ;)
There was a huge legal battle about the song for "Prisoner" and why they changed the song to be sung by another singer.

Prisoner was created by Reg Watson, who had previously produced the British soap opera Crossroads from 1964 to 1973, and would go on to create such popular Australian soaps as The Young Doctors, Sons and Daughters and Neighbours. Initially conceived as a sixteen episode stand-alone series,[2] the storylines primarily concentrated on the lives of the prisoners and, to a lesser extent, the officers and other prison staff.
... and thanks for THOSE

Prisoner was okay.... it really did broach subjects that had never been shown on TV on those days. Hated that everyone outside of Australia thought we all talked like Doreen or Lizzie! and I think the complaints from the Aussie public was why more "refined" girls were brought into the show.

I did that with Startrek once.

I was in a feeding hospital with my baby who wouldn't feed at all and I sat through mindless hours of soaps and Oprah and twaddle all week in the common room... I was so damned mind dead in that room I actually used to go out and weed the garden...they thought it was good for relaxing but noooooooo I just couldn't sit through all that rubbish.

I was so damned nice... supporting them when they got teary, nursing thier babies when they needed a break, sociable even.

ANd then ONE night.... I turned the TV over to Startrek. There were groans and complaints and then someone made a move to change the channel.....

I made a furious dash towards the TV, stood in front of it and shot an evil evil glare around the room..... "ITS STARTREK! I have endured your rubbish for a whole damned WEEK! I want ONE HOUR of TV!!!! My baby is asleep and STARTREK IS ON!!!! I am not turning off STARTREK!!!! "

They let me watch Startrek... in fact they all left the room. They sent in a nice nurse too. I explained very quietly to her that I would talk to her when Startrek finished.

They had a chat to me about "postnatal depression and stress with a baby that wouldn't feed"..... NOPE! I was just fine as soon as Startrek was finished, and I was.

Love the anecdote, Del! Not a huge fan of Star Trek, though. Liked a few episodes.

Now, here's the trailer for Doctor Who: The Dominators. Yes, you heard that right. Still, it could've been worse. The working title was originally meant to be The Beautiful People.

Little factoid, by the way: The Dominators was heavily rewritten, with the original writers (who had contributed twice to the series before, creating the Yeti, the Great Intelligence, and Colonel, later Brigadier, Lethbridge-Stewart) taking their names off it. One of those writers was Henry Lincoln, who cowrote Holy Blood, Holy Grail, often cited to be a significant inspiration for The Da Vinci Code.

Not to nitpick, but this is for trailers for crappy movies or TV shows, not theme music.

But on a related note, I detest soaps. In fact, you know the Aussie soap Home and Away? Lately, I've taken to calling it Home and Awank. I'm surprised that it's still going. And I thought that Neighbours had finally been axed, but it hasn't. It's been moved to another channel. :x

While we're on the subject of Neighbours and its crappy theme tune, what would happen if there was a soap about androids? Red Dwarf has the answer...

I couldn't actually remember one trailer for any shows, crappy or not. I could think of plenty of crappy shows, but who really takes a lot of notice of trailers?

A trailer is basically an advert for something. An advert for toilet paper featuring a cute puppy does not make me want to buy that brand of toilet paper.

A trailer for a film or TV show does not make me want to watch that show. I'll watch the show and make my own mind up.

Actually, I'm more likely not to bother watching any shows in the first place.

The whole point of this thread is to post trailers that were better than the (really crappy) movie or TV show. I'm posting Doctor Who DVD trailers simply because I don't watch that many movies, and don't have many that I detest. But at the moment, I am watching the Doctor Who series from beginning to end, and am finding many that I have to wonder, how the hell did that one get made?

If you've watched a crappy movie, regardless of whether you've seen the trailer for it or not, try looking up the trailer on YouTube and, if it looks better or, more correctly, more promising than the movie actually delivered, then go ahead and post it.

Anyway, next trailer: for the Myths and Legends DVD set, which contained three of the most mediocre Doctor Who stories ever done. They were The Time Monster, Underworld, and The Horns of Nimon.

Really? Is he? I recently got the DVD of Monsters, I intend to watch it soon.

Even so, I enjoyed watching Godzilla when it first came out. Then again, I was a teenager, and a little less discerning in my tastes. If there is any good to come out of watching that (and I should really rewatch it some time), it was watching Jean Reno for the first time.

Anyway, next Doctor Who trailer: Destiny of the Daleks. Not even optional CGI graphics on the DVD could salvage this boring bit of mediocrity.

But then again, it could have been worse. It could have been The Ark or Four to Doomsday.

And then there is The Horns of Nimon. Doctor Who as panto...

Okay, so for more variety, I've added two trailers to this post:

Quantum of Solace: Big on action, but thin on plot. Really thin, especially after the wonderful third version of Casino Royale. Not at all the best vehicle for Daniel Craig's Bond. So, here's the trailer.

Doctor Who: Meglos: The main villain is a cactus, who, ironically enough, is also one of the better actors in this story. Trailer here.
