I'm new to the forum and hope someone can advise me.

I recently got Hogfather on DVD (1 disc edition) but the programme's been cropped into a 4:3 aspect ratio. I can't imagine why, as it was certainly made in widescreen and why would anyone crop it nowadays? Also, the back of the DVD claims 'full frame version 16:9'.

Is this normal, or a dodgy batch; has anyone else found this? More importantly, if I buy the limited edition to replace it, will I find that's the same?

If anyone has either version and can let me know how theirs appears I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Neil.

Hi Neil welcome to the forum, that is my favorite Discworld one and I have just put my disc in and it plays full screen, have you double checked the settings on your tv or on the DVD it was the ltd edition but the only difference is on the 2nd disc with the extra bits, the 1st one should be the same. :)

Thanks for your help - really appreciate it! I did play around with all the settings. I could of course set the TV to 16:9 ratio but it's just stretching the picture. By default it just plays with black bars down the left and right of the screen. Very annoying when characters' faces are half offscreen even when they're talking!

If it's definately a fault I'll see if I can get it swapped. By the way, what are the extras like on the limited edition? Would it be worth me getting that anyway, do you think?

Depending on your dvd-player it might be possible that it has it's own seperate setting for the display. Check the manual?

The extra bits are: Deleted scenes, 12 Days of Hogwatch(12 featurettes) Gallery and the Making of Hogfather. sounds like a faulty one but I don't know a lot about the tech aspects of it.

Thanks everyone for your help! I've tried it in two different DVD players so I'm quite sure it's the DVD. At least I know now that it's a fairly unique problem and I should be able to replace it, which is reassuring!
