The word: WIZARD is interesting; as follows:
Using the standard English alphabet

W 4 from the end
I 9 from the start
Z 1 from the end
A 1 from the start
R 9 from the end
D 4 from the start

Also, each alphabet position used is a square!
Interesting? Any other magical properties?
I spotted this in 1991 while travelling on a bus and having finished a Terry Pratchett novel, having nothing else to do.

That must have been some dull bus journey!!

Welcome to the forum, Malc. I hope you'll have many happy years of posting.

Oh and by the way, I haven't a clue what you're on about! Explain? Pretty please?

Welcome Malcfw

The symmetry of the characters in the word on their hierarchical position in the roman alphabet ;)

4 - 9 - 1 - 1 - 9 - 4...?

Easier to see that way? Also alternating from the end or the start of the alphabet.

I think it might well not be a coincidence in the same way that abracadabra is supposed to be mathematically magical

I am rubbish at cryptic crosswords... and I only like puzzles where I can turn the page and see the answers. TELL ME THE ANSWER! NOW!

And welcome Malcfw. My oldest sends me strange mathmatical messages like that from trains. "Do you realise that in six years time when I am the age you were when you had me, Morgan will be the age I was when Hayden was born, and if you add our ages up and divide it by sum of the numbers of the year you were born it equals the age dad was when I was born.." or something like that
