After two-and-a-half seasons, Laurence Fishburne is leaving CSI. The Oscar-nominated actor's deal on the show was up and he opted not to renew it.

He is expected to return to features full-time. It was a major coup for CBS to land Fishburne as a successor to original star William Petersen who left the series in December 2008.

But when he last renewed his contract for CSI last May, Fishburne only did it for one season. After ten-and-a-half seasons as CBS' Thursday 9 PM anchor, CSI is moving to Wednesday 10 PM this fall.

I hear CBS and the veteran crime drama's producers were not surprised by Fishburne's decision. "Nobody expected him to be on the show for 7 years, it's Laurence Fishburne," one insider said. Fishburne will next be seen in Steven Soderbergh's thriller Contagion.

Much as I love it, I think it's time for Vegas to retire gracefully.

Poly.

I think they've done this as Marg Helgenberger is not going to be in every episode this season.

Presumably, the shift has to have a regular supervisor.

Having said that, I don't know why they can't promote Nicky or someone.

Yeah I know why they have done it but they would be far better to promote Nicky (an established character that the public get along with) than bring in another new character that high up. Then get Archie out as a Field Mouse as well as Hodges and bring in some new Lab Rats... much better IMO.

I just don't know if the public will take to it and I can see this being the start of the downfall :(

N.B. Nothing against Ted Danson and he'll probs be good at the part...

Read in today's National Enquirer (so it must be true!!) that Ted Danson is getting $500,000 per episode for CSI.

Apparently, he beat Tony "Monk" Shalhoub, Robin "Mork" Williams, and John "Third Rock from the Sun" Lithgow to the part.

Really? Robin Williams? I can see John Lithgow in the part, but not Robin Williams.

Can't actually see Tony S. as anything but Monk now! o_O

Robin Williams would've been cool if he'd been revealed as the Big Bad halfway through the season. He can do serious nice (Good Will Hunting) and serious creepy (Insomnia, Death to Smoochy and One Hour Photo) :) In fact that I think is my dream arc for Danson now...

Seriously, that makes three of you today.

Perry White is the Editor of the Daily Planet, Clak Kent and Lois Lane's boss. In Superman.

The "Here me!" was a paraphasing of his epic speech to Zion in Matrix Reloaded. ;)

Posted this in the DC thread too, maybe a bit clearer there.

One for the boys!!

TV Guide:

After nine seasons on CSI, Wallace Langham has just received one helluva bonus. (Or should I say a heavenly bonus?) Former Charlie's Angels beauty Jaclyn Smith has just signed on to play mom to Wally's lab tech character, David Hodges. Word is Mrs. Hodges makes a surprise visit to see her son and gets to interact with all his co-workers in an amusing fashion.

While Jaclyn is best known as TV's longest-running angel, Kelly Garrett (a role she reprised in the 2003 movie Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle), she also received acclaim for numerous TV movies and mini-series, as well as a 2010 appearance on Law and Order: SVU.

Jaclyn reports to the CSI set next week.
