Christopher Walken as Vetinari.
Sean Connery as Ridcully.
Hugh Laurie as Vimes.
Ewan McGregor OR Brendan Fraser (love 'em both) as Carrot.
Definitey Nick Frost as Fred. Definitely...
Emma Thompson (and her 'fat suit' from Love, Actually) as Sybil.
The fellow (sorry) who played Nobby in Hogfather as.. well, Nobby.

And Jack Nicholson for Lord Downey. I know, I know, Downey's character doesn't appear in Guards! Guards!, but still...

Disclaimer: I refuse to have cable television. If it was free, I wouldn't have it, but considering what it does cost (about 100US per month), absolutely not!

because our PBS (public broadcasting) station does not exist anymore, British films & shows in the US are limited to what I can scout in the video store. Hence, my unfamiliarity with many of the actors mentioned.

Is Rincewind in GG? It's been a while since I read it, but I can't stand Rincewind & I really love GG, so I don't think he can be!

I think Hugh Laurie or Richard Dean Anderson would be great as Vimes.
I'm not sure about the others... Tony Robinson could pull off a pretty good Nobby

(Sorry for my english. o_O I'm Swiss)
Your English seems excellent! Welcome to the site.

Captain Sam Vimes: Hugh Laurie
Sgt. Fred Colon: Colm Meaney
Cpl. "Nobby" Nobbs: Craig Charles
Lnc-Cnstble. Carrot Ironfoundersson: Colin Farrell
Lord Havelock Vetinari: Rowan Atkinson
Lady Sybil Ramkin: Glynis Barber
Lupine Wonse: Tim McInnery

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I couldn't resist adding my two-pennorth'. I know a lot of people would disagree with Rowan Atkinson for Vetinari, but I think his parts in Blackadder the Second and Third show that he could play the role superbly. As for Colin Farrell? Well, it's dream casting, right?

Sidebar: Some people may say that casting Craig Charles would undermine Fred's unconscious bigotry and intolerance, should the same cast be reunited for Jingo!. Personally I believe it would only add another layer of absurdity to it.

Ralph Fiennes, Charles Dance or Jason Isaacs - Lord Vetinari (preferably either of the latter two as he is mentioned as having blue eyes!)
Gary Oldman or Hugh Laurie - Sam Vimes
Alison Steadman or Pam Ferris - Lady Sybil
Agree with Rowan Atkinson for Lupine Wonse
I loved Joss Ackland as Mustrum Ridcully
Rupert Grint as Carrot (the only actor with naturally red hair and it would be nice seeing him play the hero!)
Mackenzie Crook - Brother Fingers
David Tennant as Cut-Me-Own-Throat.
Brother's Watchtower, Dunnykin, Plasterer - Eric Idle, Ronnie Corbett, Michael Caine
Librarian - John Cleese (watch George In The Jungle!)

There are some of mine...
