Is it just me who is crazily exited to see this?

I don't normally care about 3D but as I spent a large part of my childhood in an all-in-one Simba costume (complete with furry ears and tail) I'd love to see it on the big screen again...

Sorry if this has been posted already but I didn't spot it...

After watching this movie 400 billion times with my children (many years ago) and wearing out three tapes to a frazzle, I think that I've just about seen it enough in my lifetime.

Has there ever been a Disney fully animated movie where at least one of the protagonist's parents isn't either killed, dead already, or entirely out of the picture and being poorly raised by horrible step-parents? Heck, even in the Toy Story movies, the boy is being raised by a single mother. Let's look:

Snow White: Both parents dead, raised by evil queen stepmother.
Cinderella: Mother dead, raised by evil stepmother and evil stepsisters
Beauty and the Beast: Mother dead.
Dumbo: Father missing, mother chained up.
The Jungle Book: Mowgli is an orphan (parents probably killed)
Aladdin: Hero is an orphan
Lion King: Simba's dad gets killed by his brother
Alice in Wonderland: Parents out of the picture.
Bambi: Mother gets shot by hunters, dad bucking around somewhere else
Little Mermaid: Did she have parents? I don't remember
Lady and the Tramp: Lady forcibly sold from her mother; Tramp is a street orphan.

The only two I can think of where there were a set of parents:

Sleeping Beauty: I think the princess's parents were alive, but sleeping for a hundred years.
101 Dalmations: The best Disney parents ever.

Clearly, Disney is extremely anti-family, since the assumption is that none of these characters would have lived happily ever if they lived in a nuclear family.

Little Mermaid had a father, but there was no mention of a mother.

And take Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. They had nephews, but no children of their own. Whose parents were Ferdy and Morty and Huey, Dewey and Louis?

I think that if there are two parents around, the question of sex might pop up and Disney doesn't do sex.

Maybe they do have cartoon sex after all.
You should do a google search .

I always wondered about the nieces/ nephew thing in Mickey and Donald. I came to the same conclusion that the question of sex would arise.
On the other hand, there're Daisy Duck and Minnie Mouse and don't tell me they're just holding hands.
When all is said and done, there's always rule 34.

Edit: To add something on topic:
I enjoyed watching Lion King back then (I even have the OST), but I don't think I can be bothered to get/ watch it again in 3D.

I actually can't watch 3D movies because of a problem with the nerve in one of my eyes, but I'm still thinking about going to see this. I adore The Lion King, and I'm gasping to see it on the big screen again even if it gives me a retinal migraine

The cinema where I work have been showing it in 2D and 3D, your local may be too. Go check. :)

Same here, I love The Lion King, but am almost completely blind in one eye so the 3D effect is lost on me. Everything just looks a bit blurry o_O My local cinema does have 2D showings, but they're at a rubbish time. :(

I did a dissertation on Disney (the Empire) for my graphics degree - in the studio's heyday after Snow White and Fantasia won a load of Oscars the animators supposedly made an x-rated Mickey and Minnie short for Walt's birthday... :p They got him in for a party screening but he took one look and lost it big time with all of them and sacked them on the spot - his brother Roy went around re-hiring them all the next day but the film was burned immediately. They took family-friendly pretty darned seriously back then
