ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Tom Cruise.

Not that I am preduc... prejudg.... against people with a lower height variant than the norm... (some of my best friends are midgets).... but at least THEY have a personality.... I mean a personality that doesn't creep me out.

Seems like a casting purely out to earn money with a (semi/formerly) big name :( Hate those castings most of the time.
It's a bit like viewing online threads etc with -who would you cast as- and then see all those big Hollywood names. Often makes me want to hit my head against the wall.

Tom is a dwarf! He can't play Reacher!
I didn't read this thread closely enough at first. I thought people were referring to Reacher Gilt. He actually might not be too bad in that role, since he's got the pompous con-man act down perfect.

I read it like that at first too and wondered: Wait, they already made GP into a movie...

I remember a similar outcry when Mr Cruise was cast as Lestat in 'Interview with a vampire'. Even the author went public and criticised how wrong he was for the part.

Then after release, she printed a full page notice in the NY Times apologising as she thought he was marvelous in it...and so did I.

Tom's personal oddness aside, the man is a good actor...The Bon Jovi of movies he maybe, but likeable, entertaining and convincing nonetheless.

edit: Now, if you want to talk about bad casting . . how about Highlander?

A French man playing a Scot (with a slightly french accent) supported by the most Scottish of blokes (Mishter Connery) who played a Spaniard/Egyptian. 'my name is Ramiresh....etc etc"

Mind you, Sean Connery always has the same accent whatever part he plays...I did enjoy his Scotto-Russian in Hunt for Red October :)

No the stupidest casting was David Jason as Rincewind....... so there!
Full agreement, mspanners!
I disagree. The only issue I have with David Jason playing Rincewind was that he was too damn old to play the role. Other than that, he had Rincewind's character down, or at least one interpretation. Hell, I was half-hearing Jason and half-hearing Eric Idle while reading Interesting Times.
