A classic has to be old, I'd say two decades at least, and has to be quite good, loved and has to put some basis on which you can compare all the others of that genre.

p.s. probably already been said, but I didn't read all the 4 pages of this thread :oops:

Well, I don't know... to me, Blade Runner is a 'cult movie', a 'must see absolutely' movie, but not a classic. To me, there's nothing classic about a new movie.
Like 'the lord of the rings' trilogy, to me expecially the first two are among the best films in all history, but they are not classic.
