"Sære søstre" means strange sisters and that's as good as wyrd isn't it?
"hekser på tur" directly translated means travelling witches.
"Skrellingene" is a word I have never heard in norwegian before so that's a name they came up with then they translated the book. Same with the translation for Granny W.

Yep those work pretty well - although Travelling Witches doesn't have the same double meaning as the English title does.

That's why I never read the norwegian version of books I love, the translation just don't get it right...don't do them justice.

For some reason Amazon gave the Russian editions precedence when I was looking for Terry books.

First one on the list was of course, Pravda, using the newspaper's distinctive typeface.

Anyone here know Japanese? Given the manner in which oriental languages do creative things with english failures of translation, I would love to know what amazing things they come up with.

Interesting - in Witches Abroad, Terry's alternate version of French translated it as "Tempscire". I think he was making it easy for the English to understand though, rather than correct French. I can't imagine how this book translated into French then

we many words that sound english in french but when you come with computer that comes from a latin word that means count, the members of the académie française decided that we didn't need another english word and choosed "ordinateur".
