Like Monsewer Kirby...

Where's Gaspode!

Actually looking at Sacharissa some more, if that's the Baywatch take then she's actually incredibly deformed as well as disproportionately endowed and really, Kemar's a better artist than that. As the format label's covering the baby feeding equipment area it's clouding the definition somewhat, but as that's the same colour (allowing for lighting) as her hair and her clothing's in fact very dark I'm inclined to think that we're maybe stereotyping with gutter-press values? :p

I mean Sacharissa's hardly page 3 material in the book so why the gratuitous makeover? I can see how you might think she's William (with the hat) as he does look rather like the lady from Black Books who plays Sacharissa in GP?

It was Gaspode who got poodled up, Wuffles hid in Ron's coat. :p
Very true, it's one of my favourite parts of the book

Terry Pratchett in The Truth said:
Trixiebell trotted out of the shadows.
It was a poodle. More or less.
The staff at Le Foil du Chien, the doggie beauty salon, had done their very best, and a craftsman will give of his or her all if it means getting Foul Ole Ron out of the shop any faster. They'd cut, blown, permed, crimped, primped, coloured, woven, shampooed, and the manicurist had locked herself in the lavatory and refused to come out.
The result was . . . pink. The pinkness was only one aspect of the thing, but it was so . . . pink that it dominated everything else, even the topiary-effect tail with the fluffy knob on the end. The front of the dog looked as though it had been fired through a large pink ball and had only got halfway. Then there
was also the matter of the large glittery collar. It glittered altogether too much; sometimes glass glitters more than diamonds because it has more to prove.
All in all, the effect was not of a poodle but of malformed poodleosity. That is to say, everything about it suggested 'poodle' except for the whole thing itself, which suggested walking away.
'Yip,' it said, and there was something wrong with this, too. William was aware that dogs like this yipped, but this one, he was sure, had said 'yip'.
There's a good . . .' he began, and finished '. . . dog?'
'Yip yipyip sheesh yip,' said the dog, and walked off.
William wondered about the 'sheesh', but decided the dog must have sneezed.

I've been following the blog in anticipation but it looks he updates it after release now... o_O

Great picture, though I thought it was Sacharissa with the hat.
Well, weirdly, de Worde looks a bit like Tamsin Greig on this cover. And she of course played Sacharissa in Sky's 'Going Postal'

Hey there!

I'm just sorry about Sacharissa... In fact I've been inspired by some French Tv journalists, even if they're not painted exactly like they look...

For this baywatch aspect, it's more a short cut to be sure the cover would be accepted, as I often to make either funny, ugly, beautiful but never "average" people on covers. (although I didn't submit a more "sacharissa like" to my publisher, maybe I'm just guessing wrong)

I hope you'll like the next ones more than this one...

I can understand that, kemar. Ultimately it's down to what the publishers will accept. Personally I don't see the problem - although Terry talks quite a bit of Saccharissa'a looks, he doesn't actually describe her much.

BTW - I particularly like Arnold Sideways. ;)

i love this cover, the compositions amazing and gaspode is utterly hilariouse, if mind boggling.

sacharrissa's good, (her face isnt the way i see her, but thats only personal preference ). she just needs a little tweaking in my opinion -the blonde buxomness is cannon it just needs to be covered by more frills and respectably fussy bits of lace.

I was talking about covers, and particularly of kemar's covers to Leia Tortoise yesterday. One thing I particularly like about kemar's covers is that they are cartoonish enough that they don't influence my personal vision of the characters.

While I really like Paul Kidby's covers, they are a little too realistic and therefore more likely to influence my thoughts.

I generally don't much care for covers that do that. One thing about Terry's books is that he hardly ever gives a really good physical description of his characters. So when people say that one illustrator has got it wrong because it looks nothing like another illustrator's version, they are wrong themselves. It's all purely subjective. :p

I still liked it kemar! I just think that Sacharissa looks like a floozie

I agree with madam - I think Sacharissa was described as being buxom but covering it up with very old-fashioned corsetry, which while being designed to hide ladies's assets away, actually made it difficult not to notice.
