Grand Master Ursula K. Le Guin, 88, died January 22, 2018 in Portland OR. She was an Author who's books I enjoyed. RIP.

If you search the BBC's web site (bbc.co.uk) there are some interviews with Ursula LeGuin (I don't know if you can access them outside the UK, however). I re-read The Left Hand of Darkness occasionally. Perhaps now is another occasion!

Emma Chambers has died. I loved her in the Vicar of Dibley.

I'd often heard people say that she'd have made a great Magrat in a Discworld film - I agree. Very sad. RIP.

I only saw her in a few episodes of Vicar of Dibley, but I agree - she would have made a fine Magrat.

Peter Firmin has passed away. With the late Oliver Postgate they set up Smallfilms (I think it was called) and made such classics from my childhood as "Noggin the Nog", "Ivor the Engine", "Pogles Wood", "Captain Pugwash" (I think), and of course the much-loved Bagpuss (although that was after my time) and the Clangers.

[Footnote - a friend of mine is slowly creating a model railway based on Ivor the Engine - with Peter Firmin's blessing]

Mary Ellis has died aged 101. She was in the Air Transport Auxiliary and delivered Spitfires and many other types of planes to the operational stations during the war. She had her own Spitfire which she flew proudly till fairly recently.
