The Pratchett Portfolio is a collection of artwork by Paul Kidby. A bit like The Art of Discworld, only slimmer. It depends on whether you like his artwork.

If you prefer Josh Kirby, then there used to be a Poster Book available of his artwork.

As far as I know, none of these books are anything like Turtle Recall. :)

So is it just artwork, or is there some story/character development? Don't get me wrong I like the artwork too but there's so much more on my shopping list.

I'm pretty sure there isn't. But let me go and look as it's been a while since I looked at it. o_O

Ok I have dug it out from my shelves. :)

It is a very thin paperback book containing artwork of various characters with a brief biography of them next to the picture. There are comments about some of the characters written by Terry. Things like what inspired him to create the characters.

I don't honestly think you'll gain any more knowledge about the characters from the Portfolio than you will from Turtle Recall.

Turtle Recall is actually an updated version of The Discworld Companion, so many of the entries in there are the same as the Companion.

And I just realised that I have a copy of Turtle Recall that I haven't even looked at yet.

Is it worth trying to get hold of a copy of it, if I'm planning to buy turtle recall?
As the others have said, Turtle Recall is text, the Pratchett Portfolio is pictures by Paul Kidby, with some small amounts of text by Sir Terry. However, Sir Terry has said that Kidby's pictures are the closest representation of how he personally thinks of the characters - something vaguely like "as if he walked into the Discworld and sketched from life" - so you may want to consider that element. You can see a lot of the characters on Paul Kidby's website, too.

Amazon.co.uk have used versions of the Portfolio for as little as £5.55

Play.com has it used for £6.99 - this is cheaper than Amazon as you don't pay postage. ;)

AbeBooks has several copies, but watch the postage!

And World of Books has it at a good price and no delivery in the UK.
