I think it's important to let everyone know at this point that if a show is on Sky Atlantic it will probably not be shown on any other channel for the forseeable future. When Sky buy up the rights to show any of these series they attempt usually successfully to insert a clause which prevent s the show from being sold to anyone else who might compete with them. There are a few exceptions such as Blue Bloods which is shown on RTE (irish television channel) because the show was bought by RTE before Sky, Sky attempted to prevent RTE gaining access to season 2 but the makers refused on the grounds that RTE had come in first.

hope all that made sense, brain is very fried today

Bouncy Castle said:

It might have been deliberate. Shows use the little side-jokes all the time.

One recent one I caught was on an recent episode of The Office. It was the one where Jim took a week off pretending to be on jury duty. To 'prove' that Jim was lying, Dwight brings in the owners of a Hispanic food truck that fed the jury pool. As they're coming in, Dwight asks the food servers if they recognize Jim. One of them points at Jim and asks, "Quein es el hymie?" which roughly translates to "Who's the Jew?" ('Hymie' being one a lesser-known epithet for Jews). There was no reference to the line in the show itself, which made it even more hilarious--even I wasn't offended.
