ATTENTION ALL DISCWORLD QI ELVES!!!!!

Time marcheth on and I've had some contact with Eelco the Programming chief so an update is in order...

1) Guests - no news on who's likely to be on the panel yet. Reading between the lines I think that getting some of the more elderly guests (like our MVP last time, Jacqueline Simpson) to the right place at the right time is going to be A Problem due the hoopy layout of the Hotel - so we may not know who we're getting up until the last minute again.
Based on that assumption, Jason and MAD have kindly agreed to be understudies again, the downside of which is that they then can't really get too involved with the question side of things... :geek:

2) Theming - they really aren't getting too specific on this except that the Convention is loosely 'contemporary' Ankh-Morpork so we're looking at the Moist model and the Age of Steam (the hotel's opposite Manchester's Oxford Rd Station). Having talked this over with MAD and Jason a little I think it's probably best if we don't focus too much on book questions per se but on general city-based trivia, especially with the Watch series.
So - reading/revision can take in the Ankh-based books from Guards Guards and stand alones like The Truth and Unseen Academicals as well as the Moist books and everything in between.

3) ELF Security - with the exception of the incidental music which mC and Simon are working on, anything to do specifically with question setting and the General Ignorance and Nobody Knows sections needs to go on off this thread so that any boardies who're going to the convention don't have spoilers if they're not actually contributing to this as Elves ( you know who you are!). General discussion in here is OKish but we need to keep our cards close to our chests and away from the attention of the Dark Clerks :p
Anyone who'd like to chip in with actual questions please PM me and/or email (PM me for that too if you don't already have my email) so that we can collate covertly...

Any queries or ideas in the round - feel free to post on here!

Just over a month to go... o_O

Anyway - here's the blurb I've been asked to supply for the programme to whet our whistles -

Strangely Fascinating (QI for Discworld)

Making a triumphant return for your stimulation and delectation, please welcome the astonishing spectacle that is Strangely Fascinating, as Honoured Guests and Learned Pundits vie for supremacy in knowledge, sparkling wit and repartee in this beloved panel game. Our theme for this foray into the tantalisingly obscure and arcane is, of course, concerned with the Great Wahooni and all its coruscating facets and factoids.
As always, your urbane and erudite hosts are Messrs Harkin and Boote, who will entertain three towering intellects of renown, whose conversational skills in bamboozlement and rhetoric are guaranteed to amaze and delight.
Jason and MAD have both kindly agreed to understudy as panellists as we still won't know which of the guests will turn up for this, although we're hoping the original (and best) Patrician will come along again and possibly our reigning champ Jacqueline Simpson.
Those of you involved in setting questions etc - please let me have your thoughts and research (BY PM not in here) any time you like now as I need to get the compiling done as much in advance this time as poss.

And in breaking news - we have guests!

Eelco - Head of Programme said:
Hi Jan,

And we have our guests Jacqueline Simpson, Ben Aaronovitch and Peter Morwood.
I have planned a briefing in the morning (Sat, 10:00) and in the afternoon, you get The Dysk for the event itself (Sat, 15:30). As always, no guarantees on the time tables and location until they are printed, but things are becoming fairly locked down.
Allowing for accidents (like guests chickening out like the Rev Fanthorpe last year) we may yet need to call on the service(s) of MAD or Jason but it's good that we've got the guest slots filled AND a briefing scheduled this time around which may help settle jittery nerves...

Re: QI 4 Ankh-Morpork 2014 - Strangely Fascinating revisited

Got a new set banner for The Dysk delivered today - here's a preview ;)

I'm not going to be able to do any of the visuals on the fly at the convention this time around so I'm using people's pics from last time in the end credits (go HERE to see what we did last time - last vid box on page) so am asking now -

if you're going to the Convention and want to drop by and help out with the set up then let me know by 4th August and I'll happily put you on the credits for this year.

I can either use your forum avatar or post a recent photo you like in here for me to use - and unless I'm told otherwise I'll use your forum name in the credits (e.g. I'm on there as Van Quirm and not Hawke, but Jason and WWD let me use their proper names) ;)

Re: QI 4 Ankh-Morpork 2014 - Strangely Fascinating revisited

Hello :) sorry I've come in so late on this but I'd love to help out at the con if you still need more people.
Could you put Louisa rather than my username and I'll try and get a picture on here later today if that's alright? Thanks
