... as you can see it's a little 48 page hardback folio book and every member at the Convention got one given to them as a present from SIr Terry. They've all been personally embossed by Terry on the frontispiece with a crest of Ankh-Morpork (yes - all 900 odd of them!) and contains short articles, poems and 2 deleted scenes from RS, and a piece written by Rob Wilkins about Terry.

Because the housemate went with me this time - I have a spare one which I'd like to give to a member of this forum who WASN'T able to come along to the Convention. So - Tony's agreed that we can run a quiz, based on the questions asked in the Strangely Fascinating (Discworld QI) that some of us from the board helped put on at the Convention. To win this lovely little book, all you'll have to do is PM me the answers and the person who scores the highest (or is the first to answer them all correctly) gets the book.

I'll be posting the quiz thread in here at noon on August 23rd (this coming Bank Holiday weekend) so people in Oz and the US can get a look in - there's around 40 questions in all and they're based on who's living in and what goes on in Ankh-Morpork.

Tony, Jason or Toothy - I posted in here as that's where most of the Convention stuff has been put, but if you want to move this to another more suitable forum please feel free ;)

Re: A Present from Sir Terry Pratchett OBE - win a copy!

I got Small Gods in my goody bag (one of my favourites).

Also, because I was nearly the last in the queue, Rob had time to be a bit more personal with my folio and signed it 7a 1 7a (my membership number was 818). We also had a chance to chat about cameras since he purchased the same one that I use, just before he went to Borneo.

The book is well worth winning, apart from being a rare item (only the proof books are rarer than this) it is great fun as this is the only place that these works are going to be printed so it's a chance to read bits of where Raising Steam almost went

Yes - I think this one may actually be quite highly sought after in years to come, as the print run was minute and it'll never get repeated.

Along with the goody bag books, which all contained a £9.99 copy of one of the new Gollancz hardbacks and a foreign language Discworld title in paperback, I think that Terry's really lit a fire under Transworld for this convention because he so wanted to be able to be there himself to do all the meeting and greeting he so enjoys. Of the 3 UK Conventions I've been to this one's been the most affectionate and atmospheric in spite of the challenging terrain and muddling through that went on and I'm sure that Rob was taking loads of pics and vids to take back to Terry to m,ake up for missing it - you could really feel the love the whole time - even when we were out on the pavement at 5:30 on the Saturday morning!

Re: A Present from Sir Terry Pratchett OBE - win a copy!

Another tid-bit before I go out.

Although I didn't get a copy of the photograph I saw, I did meet the lady who got locked in her bathroom at the Holiday Inn who had to 'dig' her way out. The hole she made in the wall was quite impressive considering the only tool she had was from the toilet that she had to dismantle to make it.

For those who weren't there, I'm a bit rushed atm but will elaborate later if no one else does.

EDIT: Sorry, I meant to post this in the Convention thread.

What an opportunity!! I shall be entering, but with my limited padawan knowledge on discworld compared to others on this site, my chances are slim! Still, the fun will be in the tryin'! When all is said and done, can we have league results on the quiz please Jan? Maybe who came top 10 or 20?

I can 'publish' results if people want - some of the questions are quite obscure but it's mostly QI standard so you may be able to do the research on Wiki fairly quickly (I did use the Compleat Guide to Ankh-Morpork and the new Discworld Companion: Turtle Recall for setting a lot of it if you want to start revising! ;) )

This is so nice of you Jan. Good luck to everyone! I was absolutely floored when Rob announced we'd all be getting one.

Re: A Present from Sir Terry Pratchett OBE - win a copy!

Interestingly none have appeared on EBay yet. I would have expected some to, especially where whole families attended and they have 3 or 4 copies. I am somewhat intrigued as to what price one would make, my guess is £100 to £150 but it could easily go higher once the collectors market understands what it is
