Just finished Jingo and thought I'd rank the Discworld series from what I read so far.
10: Lords and Ladies - Took me a while to finish this one. To be frank, I didn't like it. The book just sort of ended (something about bees bringing Granny back to life) and...well, I liked the concept more than I liked the story
9: Going Postal - It was interesting and kept me entertained throughout. Didn't like the movie version by the way.
8: Mort - Enjoyed this one. Liked the idea of someone ceasing to have a presence because they were supposed to die.
7: Men At Arms - Despite being at the bottom of the list I must stress that I did in fact like this book. My main problem with it is one: not that much happens two: Vimes gives up on solving the case due to stress from Vetinari and three: he gets drunk. Just bugs me is all.
6: Jingo - Again, I liked this one, too, but it simply isn't as good as the others on this list.
5: Snuff - For the first one-hundred pages or so nothing really happens. Plus it doesn't follow up with The Watch after the events of THUD! which quite bothered me. Still liked it though and the goblin mythology interested me.
4: Feet of Clay - I really liked the parts with Angua and Cheery in this one and the ending was good enough for me to look upon this one more favorably.
3: Guards! Guards! - An instant classic!
2: Night Watch - Basically a pro-gun pro-defense novel with an interesting time travel plot and Vimes dripping with awesome-ness. I prefer my Vimes like I prefer my Batman: dripping un-adulterated action and facing down seemingly impossible odds.
1: THUD! - hands-down one of my favorite fantasy novels ever (beaten only by The School for Good and Evil). Sort of like Batman meets The Da Vinci Code (also, anyone else find it ironic that The Da Vinci Code was partially made up and everyone hated it but this one is pure fantasy and everyone loves it?). Again, it's Vimes being awesome: what's not to like?
If you have a list of your favorites then feel free to post it here or comment on whether you agree or disagree with my list. Thanks for reading!
