Anyone see the new version of Sherlock Holmes on the BBC? I watched it on the iPlayer and thought it was pretty good.
thought it was great, though, the baddie was predictable. I love the way the to 'M' characters were introduced. The finale was a wierd homage to the drinking scene in The Princess Bride. :) and yeah, the music was wierdly similar to the recent film.

I still prefer Jeremy Brett's portrayal, but I enjoyed this modern reworking of "A Study In Scarlet". They even managed to keep close to how Holmes and Watson came to work together. I believe there are two more episodes to go in this series, so I will withhold judgement until then, but it does look promising.

At least they tried to explain Dr. Watson's roving war wound which varied from different areas of the body, depending on which story you were reading! I've always wondered whether this was a deliberate ploy from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to test whether his readers were paying attention, a genuine reccuring error on his part, or just laziness on the part of a highly acclaimed British author. Any views, anyone?

Ooh, I must watch that on iPlayer before it disappears. It looks interesting; not sure if I'm going to like it but it's only fair to watch it first before making that sort of decision.

Loved it, the chemistry between the two leads is really good. It feels more genuine that the recent movie version, and i liked the little graphical touches when people recieved text messages and holmes looking at the body. I felt it helped the flow, which may been disrupted if we had lots of cutaways. Did anyone else spot the random message about the green ladder. Have discovered this links to a case on Holmes website http://www.thescienceofdeduction.co.uk/

While i thought the killer was obvious, i never saw the twist about his arch enemy coming though.

I watched The Blind Banker on the iPlayer this morning. Very good - although I don't know if this is based on one of the books (or short stories) as the last one was.

I only just realised (when I read a cast list) that mrs Hudson is Una Stubbs.

The museum used in the episode in the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff - which has been used loads of times in Dr Who.

Watched the third episode and really enjoyed it. All three episodes are available on iPlayer - but I don't know how long for.

Really liked The Golem assassin - what a scary guy.

I hope they give it a second series - I've always been a bit of puritan about Holmes & Watson (really don't intend to watch the Mr Downey Jnr) and Jeremy Brett is still the definitive Sherlock Holmes.

But I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed the BBC series and thought they not only did an great job of updating it (tricky thing to do) but that the main characters were very well written and portrayed. Martin Freeman as Watson was something of a revelation and frankly has done one of the best jobs of portraying Watson I've seen.

Benedict Cumberbatch.. well, I'm actually impressed, and as a Brett puritan that takes alot of doing. He really captured the manic energy and genius of Holmes, and he was aided by the excellent writing of Gatiss and Moffatt.

And as for the cliffhanger ending.. thumbs up from me.
