I find myself in possession of a signed first edition of the Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling) book The Cuckoo's Calling.
I never buy books to sell them and this was a bargain at £16.99 and I love having a copy of a book signed by JK rowling that I didn't give blood to get. On the other hand they are now trading at close to the £1000 mark on various dealer sites with a copy even being offered at £1650 on ABE. Am I mad not to cash in now or should I hold on to it. I'm kicking myself I didn't get another copy or two while I had the chance.

I would sell if the money could be better spent elsewhere (or set up a trust fund for Harry with the proceeds). I'm not up on selling books as collectables but I would imagine that the prices may well go down in the future. I have no real reasoning or evidence to back up my feeling other than I don't think the public will show much future interest in her work beyond the Harry Potter books (her current stuff is following immediately on the heels of these, so people are still naturally buying out of curiosity, if you see what I mean). :)

I assume the plan was always to leak at some points . Maybe the level of good reviews was enough. She wanted some positive feedback so it was time for the publisher to get paid

Sell it now. The market is artificially high. Once everyone who has one of these discovers how much others are selling for they'll all try selling them, plus tons of counterfeit signed version will flood the market, lowering the overall resale value.

Very true . I have a receipt for the book and from the shop in question its pretty good proof of authenticity based on their reputation.
I've never sold on ebay but might look into it or ABE

Ebay won't let me sell for over 700 euro in the first 90 days which sucks so what are my other options. ABE needs me to sign up for a few months with fees etc.

Definitely sell and get it while you can. As for limits on Ebay just find a friend who will list the book for you who has been on Ebay for a while. I have sold various things for other people who hadn't been on long enough, there must be somebody you work with who buys or sells on Ebay.

I'm a longtime Ebay member, so I'll sell it for you--for a commission, of course.

It'll have to be on Ebay USA, though. On the other hand, you'll have an audience of 300 million potential bidders with far too much disposable income on their hands, vs. however many there are in your Ebay market....
