Welcome to the site, pandasthumb. :laugh:

Snuff (the stuff you stick up your nose) is certainly sometimes made of tobacco. But the title 'Snuff' is somewhat ambiguous I think and we'll have to wait and see what Terry does with it.

It could mean 'to extinguish', 'to murder' or maybe 'Up to snuff' as in good health. o_O

Or it could be a return of Moving Pictures for evil means......

I'm with the majority here. I'm glad to see another Watch book coming out. Von Lipwig is not my favourite. Though I really like Going Postal on Sky and would like to see Coyle in the role again in the future.

Hello!

I heard a talk given by TP on a podcast (sorry I can't remember what it was called, a Library one?) and in it he referred to Snuff and the connection to tobacco. However, I am sure that no novel is going to be simply about one thing ...

Hi, gentles all;

If the collaboration is not due out until 2012 (has anybody read any of stephen baxter's works - not a name that was familiar with me until the Con this year) and the section of Snuff that Rob read (every bit as well as TP would have done!) was at least the second draft.....

DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHEN SNUFF IS COMING OUT?

Everybody seems to be under the impression this is a Watch book but with the shift in the series from all the members of the Watch to Vimes and his pals it seems entirely possible, with Vimes going on holiday at some point in the book, that it'll be entirely about Vimes and we'll only learn what's going on with other Watchmen when Vimes thinks about them

Is it weird to want a Watch book where Vimes is incapacitated and the book centres around the rest of the Watch, I know this has been slightly dealt with in Men at Arms (or G!G!) but I want more of a team base book, like a Mission Impossible style thing.

Considering what a disaster the watch were in TFE when Vimes was away and Carrot left I'm not sure how well it would work

but there are possibilities, esp if Angua and Cheery were there

Seeing as Angua got promoted to Captain in "I Shall Wear Midnight" they now have 3 people capable of running the show so there's little chance of another 5th Elephant occurring. In addition, I strongly believe that given the Watch when created had 5 Captain spots [The New Discworld Companion] Cheery, a troll (most likely Detritius) and a member of some other species [Dorfl perhaps] will also be Captains

As for the meaning of Snuff I think in this case it's referring to the Troll drug rather than snuff films or tobacco

Good point. If there are other captains though, I think they'll be new characters. The main characters can't be the ones who get the best jobs, just because they've been there longest (that's no way to run a Watch ;) ).
