It looks great! One of my all time favourites is 'Laputa - Castle in the Sky' - I went to see it on the big screen at the Cardiff Animation Festival a few years back.
One of my RP mates was actually in lurve with Howl the wizard and she sent me the DVD.
Very interesting film if you're into different animation techniques - can't accuse this of being Disneyfied as it's quite stylish. Sort of Jules Verne Edwardian with magic bits. The storyline's not particularly outstanding (haven't read the book so I can't say how much they diluted it) and the main villainess is frankly pathetic, after a good strong start. Definitely made for younger young adults, but it looks good
Yes, and they do excellent with voicing. Personally, I don't think Miyazaki has a bad film, and Disney makes them available for the English-speaking market, plus does a lot of really good PR for Ghibli. Got all of them on DVD that I can get over here, and never tire of a one...even the more low-key Ghibli films.
I love Ghibli films, but because Ponyo is marketed as a little kids films, it's only been on at midday round here damn you school! Making me work :x Howl's Moving Castle is good, but I don't think it's his best, I would wholly recommend Nausicaa (even if the sub sucks they fiddled the storyline to make it more "mainstream")
I loved 'My Neighbour Totoro' He looked like a giant bunny and the bus was cool I watched it in Japanese with subs.I don't know if the english has the same story.
Funnily enough, one of my favorites is Porco Rosso, which is not one of Miyazaki's more popular films. It's happy and uplifting all through, an easy movie to watch. Even the heavy parts are amusing. The Cat Returns is another one, very humorous - quite a bit on the silly side, but excellent eye candy.
