apparently Michael Bay has just announced that the turtles won't be mutants they'll be aliens. Unsuprisingly the fans are outraged, Bay's reply "Fans need to take a breath, and chill" he just doesn't get it does he :icon-rolleyes:

Actually, what he said was they would be alien in origin. And since in the original series it was Krang that made the mutagen, and in the comics and newer series it came from TCRI, the front company for the Utroms, thats statment he made isn't far off. It was only the movies where the ooze wasn't of alien origin.

If this means he plans on brining krang into this then **** YEAH. I've been waiting 20 years to see the Technodrome on the big screen, and if anyone can do it, its Michael -ing Bay.

and you left out the part of his responce where he said for people to chill, they haven't read the script so don't know the whole story and he was working with the original creators on it.

it's true I left that bit out. I would masively disagree with you though about if anyone can do its Michael Bay a director who's main hobby is tearing apart old shows and movies. Transformers 1 was average the other 2 terrible. He hasn't made a genuinely good film since The Rock to my mind. Everything else has been either a vastly inferior sequel or a badly made remake.

so.... he's only directed the transformers and Bad Boys films? transformers was the only remake he directed, and those and the bad boys films are the only sequels.

Look, i know its fashionable to hate on Michael bay since enjoys making films that are fun and spectacle and not intellectual (except for The Island, though most people forget about that). And i think that is what cheezes people off the most, that they are for fun and not thinking man movies (mostly), and yet make huge amounts at the box office. I get that that is offensive to a certain type of person. I disagree. I found the TF movies to be entertaining, intelligent? possibly not, but fun. (and i found the 3rd film to be the best of the series, but thats me.) Not every film has to be a Hitchcock, or kubrick, or whichever your high class filmmaking sensibilities are. Nothing wrong with just having fun.

And you aren't going to find a bigger TMNT fan on this forum then me, but this doesn't bother me. In fact, quite the opposite. i've had a certain kind of film in mind since the early days of the franchise. A type of film i think the franchise deserves. something big, over the top, action packed, big budget. and Bay is, i feel, one of the best of the current crop of directors/producers to bring that kind of TMNT film to the big screen. Frankly, the only other one that got me as excited was when John Woo was briefly attached to a Live Action TMNT film. And with Eastman involved (it has to be him since Laird left the franchise for good not to long ago) only makes it even better.

that works if you take into account films he's directed only but the fact is that he produced a string of remakes and sequels. for the record I am a massive fan of films that are fun but there has to be some amount of plot as well and thats where he massively fails to deliver. He made good films early on but hasn't done so since. I don't think this is going to work at all, but you're entitled to your opinion.

Oh i know, but he was talking about Bay's directorial endeavors. Not his production work. (note: spielberg produced the TF movies, so you have to take into account who is doing what. you can't blame bay for his direction, then blame him for his production work on another directors film, thats just spiteful)

Regardless they haven't yet picked a director yet (not sure, have to check).

eitherway, we'll have to wait and see on how this turns out.

Oh, they do have a director, Jonathan Liebesman, and he commented on the controversy.

Look, it's so funny... if everyone was such a die-hard fan, they would know that the TCRI cannisters where the ooze comes from... that is alien ooze. Now I'm not saying what Michael said is exactly what the movie is, because we're sitting in a room now figuring everything out. So we don't know, but we are like Michael said... we're expanding it, and the expansion will be true to the mythology. I promise you. Fans will love it... Whatever mythology we're building on or expanding is coming from that guy, Kevin Eastman's head, who created the Turtles in the first place. And so everything will tie in with the mythology; fans will be extremely excited with what we're coming up with. A lot of it is stuff he's wanted to do for a long time, but just hasn't had the opportunity because now we have the budget and things on this film to expand it in the right way. And so, I'm happy that everyone is extremely passionate, and they will not be disappointed. It's all coming from the best possible place for this franchise.
EDIT: And the drama continues, name is going to be "Ninja Turtles", and people are upset...... what a shock. People are calling for the head of Bay, Again, and generally complaining and saying they are "Dumbing Down" the title and completely ignoring the fact there already WAS a "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and a "TMNT", AND the fact that every fan in the entire WORLD says Ninja Turtles instead of using the entire title in conversation. I guess people like pointless subtitles or the year tacked onto to movie titles.
