Orangutans going extinct is like elephants or dolphins going extinct, everyday creatures we take for granted, it's such a shame. Needless to say this is quite a shock, hopefully we'll find replacements for the libraries soon.
Set my mediabox to remind me and promptly dozed off on the couch(last twitches of a minor bug),so only caught the very end... :x
So waiting for another chance at it on BBC 3 or 4 very soon(i'll be sure to make the coffee a bit stronger then )!
Anyway, beautiful filming of the documentary. With all the recent extinction talk on NatGeo and TedX it's sad to think about how humans come in and just decimate species. Hopefully the Orangutan Foundation International and their dedicated staff, showcased in the film, can do something about it.
I've just watched it this morning too. Many thoughts but fewer maudlin ones than I anticipated. The parallels between Terry's life and that of the (presumed late) orangutan he met 18 years ago are made evident on many levels. Mostly I'm filled with an understanding of love in its purest form. I'll be watching again before it disappears from iPlayer.
One of the members of the CA Board, "Basement" has been to that centre in Borneo and had a close encounter with Tom. She was trying to get her camera out of her backpack and accidentally rustled a bag of crisps that was in there. Tom gently but firmly pinned her to a tree and relieved her of the crisps. She became known as Mrs Tom after that.
