To be honest, I'm becoming more insular as I age (47 this year) and am very much a "stayathome" person.
I'd love to meet all you guys (though wouldn't remember your names 3 minutes after meeting you!!), but I'm not really a "crowd" person.
Neither am I Jane but I
really enjoyed the Birmingham con - this Dutch one (in Rotterdam) is likely smaller and so it could be a good one ot 'cut your teeth' on. I had one mild onset of a panic attack on the Sunday night in Birmingham when there was a 'reception' for the crowning of the Low King and had to go out of the main Hall but everything else was fine really - the people who go are great and even though I stuck with pooh, Dotsie, Dug, Sjoerd and MAD most of the time the atmos was really lovely and everyone was so upbeat and happy it really was smiles all around you virtually non-stop - even at 8 am brekkies when people were still hungover
If you can work and commute during 'regular' hours in London then this is a complete doddle in comparison (come the end I couldn't use the tube at all during my 25 yr commuting career because I used to get so claustrophobic) but this was nothing like that and the only times you're really aware of crowds is when you queue to get into the larger rooms and even then the 'infirm' like me - so stick and wheel chair users - get priority badges so you can get to your seats in a civilised manner before they let the main mob in.
I'm a little apprehensive about going to the Dutch Con (I hate flying but it's a nice short flight and I know Schipol and the rail station there quite well) but as I know Sjoerd very well now, and am meeting a friend from another forum at the hotel and I'll finally get to meet Meerkat too I'm excited rather than worried this time, because I know that everyone there is going to be great company and out to have a good time - it really is the same as being on this forum but with a bar - everyone's there because they really love Terry so everyone's a friend you haven't met yet!
