Dean O'Gorman will be playing Fili. Dean's a terrific Kiwi actor, who I am thrilled to be working with. He's recently been in an excellent TV series down here called "The Almighty Johnsons", and I should let fans of that show know that our shooting schedule allows Dean to continue with a second series next year. Dean will be joining us next week.

I'm also pleased to announce that Lee Pace will be playing the Elven King Thranduil. Casting these Tolkien stories is very difficult, especially the Elven characters, and Lee has always been our first choice for Thranduil. He's going to be great. We loved his performance in a movie called "The Fall" a few years ago, and have been hoping to work with him since. When we were first discussing who would be right for Thranduil, Lee came into mind almost immediately.

One of the guys arguing for a split of the money with the dwarfs anyway and looks after the dwarfs and Bilbo when they turn up.
Saw that guy Conan in Game of Thrones and felt very sorry for the horse he was jousting on. Seems a good actor and bloody strong.

 Sorry haven't been keeping too much of an eye on this forum recently. Yeah the Master of Laketown is a fairly prominent character in The Hobbit but the Alfrid part for his servant's barely there if at all (although plausible enough for a role). Stephen Fry'll make the most of the character's smarmy devious ways though so I think it's a great piece of casting. I heard about that Barnes Wallis screenplay too - that sounds quite interesting in fact :p

I'm glad they've got Conan to do Azog - he's that rarity in Tolkien's world a fairly well-defined baddie although he's not in it for too long as a speaking part as such. No doubt there'll be a beefed up part for him at the end of the second film though
