Open questions:

- How are the Next treating the humans and trolls formerly from Happy Landings?
- What will happen as more Next will be born and discovered among the human population?
- Will the stepping sandwhale attack the Russian scientists on Gap Mars?
- Will humans in the lower earths renew their space plan with space elevator technology? Will they mine the Long Asteroid Belt?

OK here's my query, but it may fade into insignificance..
The Next are being held underground in Datum Hawaii. - recognised as a perfect way to prevent stepping, yet Joshua and Sally get them all out. How? It's all done in a couple of sentences.

And the stepper box bears a close resemblance to the Heironymous machine - but that's another kettle of worms...
