NOT The land of the risen Son!!
I've just sent you the speech.

My new student's daughter has been a ballet teacher in France for the last 7 years. At the end of June my student's going to France to meet her daughter's boss for the first time. She wants to give her the speech written in Japanese, English and French.

Bouncy, my little cabbage.

You may recall that I recently went back to the UK for a couple of weeks.

When I was in London I got an Oyster card, which I then lost and had to buy a new one.

I thought I'd left it at my brother's house in Bath.

Well, would you adam and eve it, I found it hidden in my bag yesterday.
Obviously it's of no use to me. However, if I send it to you, you can cash it in and get the fiver deposit (plus I think about 1.75 unused travel).

Send me your address (again! ) and I'll pop it in the post for you.

If you don't want it, I'll send it to Pinflod.

That's very kind of you, old sausage, but I have an annual season ticket, wot takes me on bus, train and tube.

I think Pinflod could probably make better use of it than moi.

Thanks for thinking of me, though. :angelic-little:

I don't think you quite understand the Oyster card, do you.

When you get one, you have to pay a fiver deposit ie; it costs you 15 quid to get 10 quid's worth of travel. When you finish using it, you hand it in to any tube station and they give you the fiver deposit back. All you would have to do is hand it in and get a fiver (plus the amount of unused travel which is about 1.75). I'm not saying use it, just get the deposit back.

Excellent.

Actually, I might keep it. I've been toying with the idea for some time now, as a backup for my Annual Season Ticket, should it ever get lost/stolen (I've had them stolen twice over the years, and you have to pay twenty five quid to get a replacement, and fork out for daily tickets while you're waiting for them to send the new one).

According to Amazon and the Terry Pratchett homepage, The Long Earth was published on June 21.

That was 3 days ago!

Yet I see nowhere on this forum, any post that even hints at anyone having bought it. o_O

Can someone explain why this is the case, because I don't understand? o_O

 Whoops!

It's still May, isn't it?

Do I feel a twit, or what?

I've just ordered a US proof of Long Earth ($12), so hopefully will get it in a week.
If I finish it before it's published, I'll post my opinion here.

(BTW Bet all your money on The Joker in the 4:30 at York on June 16 at 25-1) :ugeek:

Gather ye round for I be having an interesting tale to thee!

This statue of William Wallace is in Aberdeen. It was erected in 1888, but on Wiki there is no mention of the artist who designed it.

Well, let me tell you about that artist. :ugeek:

It was designed by Luigi Arighi, an Italian born in Barga, Tuscany in 1836.
In 1858, he and his brother emigrated to Edinburgh ( o_O a rather bizarre thing to do!).
Luigi went on to marry a Scottish woman called Isabella Richardson.
In 1888 there was a competition to design a William Wallace statue and Luigi won.

I know all this because Luigi Arighi was my great, great grandfather.

So this makes me 1/16 Italian and 1/8 Scottish and entitles me to wear the Ross tartan.

Interesting or wot?
