Speaking as a non-US citizen, what you just said sounds pretty much the way I look at things. :p

I know Obama finished the Iraq war    but he escalated the Afghanistan war.

And if Ron Paul did stand as an independent, what do you think would happen?

Me to Jan. :x

I don't think that Discworld books are goint to end anytime soon 39 is an odd number to end them,it would have to be 42
It was at Wincanton I think that Terry said the next DW book would give a passing nod to Dodger and that was Raising Taxes after that I dont know. :)

What you say is quite true WWD, 39 is an ODD number. 15 is also an odd number. And 27, 35, 3 and 17,369.
42 is an even number along with 18, 286 and 4.

And if the next DW book is to be Raising taxes, who's to say that Rhianna won't write it?

So, this is the Pooh Pit, right?

Does that mean that once enough has accumulated, we shovel it all out and spread it over the crops?

The Carry On gag "Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!" has been voted the funniest film one-liner.

Kenneth Williams uttered the words as Julius Caesar in 1964 romp Carry On Cleo.
It was named the best one-liner in a poll of 1,000 comedians, industry figures and film fans by Sky Movies Comedy.
Bob McCabe, author of The Rough Guide To Comedy, said: "It's great to see two British movies in the top three and well-established classics with great lasting power.

The rest of the top Top 10 was made up of:

2. He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy.
Terry Jones as Brian's mother - Life Of Brian (1979)

3. Surely you can't be serious?" I am serious, and don't call me Shirley.
Leslie Nielsen as Dr Rumack - Airplane! (1980)

4. Remember you're fighting for this woman's honour, which is probably more than she ever did.
Groucho Marx as Rufus T Firefly - Duck Soup (1933)

5. Don't knock masturbation. It's sex with someone I love.
Woody Allen as Alvy Singer - Annie Hall (1977)

6. Do you have a licence for your minkey?
Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau - The Return of the Pink Panther (1975)

7. Is that, is that hair gel?
Cameron Diaz as Mary Jensen - There's Something About Mary (1998)

8. Gentlemen, you can't fight in here. This is the War Room.
Peter Sellers as President Merkin Muffley - Dr Strangelove (1963)

9. Nice beaver! Thank you. I just had it stuffed.
Leslie Nielsen as Lt Frank Drebin and Priscilla Presley as Jane Spencer - The Naked Gun (1988)

10. When I met Mary I got that old-fashioned romantic feeling where I'd do anything to bone her.
Jim Carrey as Lloyd Christmas - Dumb and Dumber (1994)
#4 = Groucho Marx as Rufus T Firefly - Duck Soup (1933)
At DWCons, TP wears one of those badgey-type-name-cardy-things-you-wear-round-your-neck-jobbies which has Terry Pratchett on one side and Silas T Firefly on the other. When the latter is showing, you shouldn't talk to him.

I've just accidently found out where the name comes from.

I guess here is where we disagree. From my experience, rarely has a progeny (or even another writer) been able to take on a series and do it nearly half as well. Frank Herbert's last Dune books were pretty bad and I tried reading the first 50 pages of this son's first attempt at one and it was so bad I had to scrub my hands with soap to get the bad ink off my hands. Janet Evanovich is writing books with her son, and I tried reading one but felt my IQ dropping by 30 points to single digits. The only progency I've read who has been able to follow as well in his dad's footsteps is Jeff Shaara, son of "The Killer Angels" author Michael Shaara.

Every Obama supporter in America is hoping that Paul will run as an independent. It would all but guarantee Obama's re-election, since Paul would siphon off the nutjob Republicans who would have felt distaste voting for Willard.

Oh, come on. How can any list of the Top 10 one-liners not include far more funnier lines like:

"What are you going to do, bleed on me?" King Arthur to the limbless Black Knight in MP and the Holy Grail

or

"Nobody's Perfect," perhaps the best funniest closing line in history, from "Some Like it Hot"

But what % of US voters are nutjobs? I'm assuming it's the 20-25% that always thought Bush was doing a good job.

But Ron Paul doesn't just appeal to T-Bagger nut jobs, he'd also take away votes for Obama.

Just look at Raptornx, who seems to me like a sensible, Obama-surppoting guy and I totally agree with with virtually all his post, yet he also said,

That would be a tiny number of votes. If you were inclined to vote for Paul, you'd never vote for Obama, since Obama is the absolute opposite to the right-wing libertarian values Paul stands for.

As my Dad used to say to us all the time...... "Consider the source"

Most "Best of's" have an agenda for pushing something they want to promote.

And anyway... I am sure that however many billion indians there are that love Bollywood movies would have a completely different say on "best lines".

I completely do not agree with the list published by the Daily Telegraph.

No need to disagree I didn't say I liked the buggers, but they've been published and 'done well' in that respect in that people have obviously bought them and they were the 2 most obvious examples I could think of. For the record I've actually never read either offspring and in fact have never read Anne McCaffrey for that matter - lord knows why not but I just never got around to it

As for the original Dune series I happen to prefer Chapter House and Heretics to the original which was a v.g. book indeed in it's time before everyone began to associate Sting with Feyd Rautha :p

I assume you're referring to the execrable movie version, the only parts of which I remember are I, Claudius alum Sian Phillips reprising her Livia role as the evil witch mother or whatever and Patrick Stewart wearing a long wig and chewing up the scenery like a swarm of famished termites.

Even brain-bleach cannot remove the memory of the yukky pre-CGI sandworms

I have to say I didn't register PS because I was too mesmerised with Sting running around in short shorts and oiled up half the time - it did help to keep your mind off the terrible hamming but not all the time unfortunately. Car crash cinema - gotta lurve it!

He's still better then the other repubs. I prefer Obama, but if a repub had to win, i'd rather it be him. I happen to agree with some of the stuff he says. Not all of it, but some. at least, more then any other repub. but he's also centrist in alot of ways. he's not a war-monger, but also not one for regulation even if it could help. He's for the free market despite it helping to get us in the mess we are in, but against things like the overly aggressive, and frankly racist, immigration policies we have. i disagree with lowering taxes, but do agree the loop holes in our current tax code need to be closed.

frankly on the tax issue, i think those supporting the latter haven't sold their side of the argument very well. it would help if they could give numbers, like those in favor of raising taxes on the 1% who can say, if we raise it this much, this is how more we'll get. I could support tax laws that close the gaps instead raising taxes, if, and only if you can prove to me it'll get more money flowing into the system.

i just don't get why it has to be so complicated. you earn income, no matter WHERE it comes from, you pay taxes on said income. simple. no strike that, i do get why, so that there CAN be loop holes. Mitt Romney admitted he only pays something like 15% because its all capital gains. and thats less that "I" pay.
